Abstract:
Speed is not the only requirement when responding to the catastrophic loss of dwellings in major storms, earthquakes and tsunamis. Equally crucial are community recovery and structural durability, since what is initially intended as temporary accommodation can often remain in longer‐term use. Cynthia Barton , former housing recovery programme manager at the New York City Emergency Management Department, and Deborah Gans and Rosamund Palmer of Brooklyn‐based architectural practice GANS studio, have been working together in this area for 10 years. Their and other similar collaborations have produced effective models of modular design and community engagement that could provide a way forward.Cite

This chapter details the process of creating an accommodation map and monitoring accommodation. Most parents provide many different forms of accommodation, and it is important to make a choice about which to focus on first. If the behavior is something the parents do because of the child’s anxiety and the child becomes more anxious if the parents do not do it, it is likely that it is an accommodation. Knowing as much as possible about the various accommodations parents have been providing will mean they have the most options to choose from, and this will make it more likely that they select the best accommodation to reduce first. After completing an accommodation map, it will be much easier for parents to keep track of the accommodations they continue to provide in the coming days and weeks. Once the parents start actively reducing the accommodation, the log will be a useful way to keep track of changes in the parents’ overall accommodation, alongside the more specific focus on the accommodation they choose to reduce.

Studio-based learning for software engineering is a well-received concept, despite its apparent lack of uptake across institutions worldwide. Studio education affords a variety of highly desirable benefits, and is also popular amongst its students. This paper presents Lancaster University's software engineering studio, details of its implementation, observations made throughout its first year, evidence of its successes, and reflections against the recently defined studio framework. This paper aims to provide useful information for anyone that is considering utilizing a studio-based approach.

This chapter examines the conditions necessary to promote the growth of the animation industry in local regions through a case study of an animation studio in Okinawa. The investigation specifically focuses on the background behind a Tokyo studio's decision to establish an Okinawa branch and the cooperation between these two related studios. The government of Okinawa Prefecture implemented a promotional policy to support their local industry. The Okinawa studio was required to collaborate with local industries to create new employment and generate industrial development through the production of an animated film. Daily working hours and workdays at the studio had to be regulated at the Okinawa animation studio because the studio was run with governmental support. However, Tokyo studio staff regularly work through the night. The Okinawa studio was unable to communicate rapidly enough with the Tokyo studio to produce animation and lacked much of the technology used by the Tokyo studio. Hence, the Tokyo studio's extensive experience and access to technology ensured that they were responsible for a large part of the production.

In Western art historiography, the artist's studio is not a new topic, but the interest it has aroused in recent years seems to point to the emergence of a new field of investigation, the so-called studio studies. The studio studies assume that the topic of the artist's studio is very important for the understanding of art production and reception, as well as of the ways in which the artist’s self-image is built. But what exactly is this new field of investigation? Which potential contributions can it bring to Brazilian art history of 19th and early 20th centuries? This paper strives to answer these and other questions, focusing on photographs of Brazilian painters’ studios from the early 20th century.

The aim of this study was to determine whether the Australian accommodation cooperatives have been successful in meeting the objectives of their constituent members.
A questionnaire was sent out to a sample of accommodation
cooperative members, and the results obtained were
supplemented by information received via interviews with a
number of experienced individuals closely associated with the accommodation industry. The results of the study indicated that the Australian accommodation cooperatives had not been highly successful in meeting the objectives of their members. The study also showed wide support for accommodation cooperatives in principle, but substantial disenchantment with the manner in which most of the groups had performed in practice.

The accommodation sector is central to international tourism. Tourism flows are directly influenced by the size of this sector, by the way it adapts to demand and by the quality of the accommodation on offer. Three characteristics are associated with accommodation: Seasonality Its economic activities are seasonal which implies a great flexibility in structures. Manpower planning The industry is labour-intensive, which further compounds the problems caused by seasonality. It requires accurate forward planning of temporary employment. Perishability Accommodation production cannot be stocked. As with transport, accommodation products that are not consumed cannot be stored for use at a future date. Non-utilisation is expensive.
