Abstract:
Prolonged sitting has been linked to adverse health outcomes; therefore, we developed and examined a web-based, computer-tailored workplace sitting intervention. As we had previously shown good effectiveness, the next stage was to conduct a dissemination study. This study reports on the dissemination efforts of a health promotion organisation, associated costs, reach achieved, and attributes of the website users. The organisation systematically registered all the time and resources invested to promote the intervention. Website usage statistics (reach) and descriptive statistics (website users’ attributes) were also assessed. Online strategies (promotion on their homepage; sending e-mails, newsletters, Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn posts to professional partners) were the main dissemination methods. The total time investment was 25.6 h, which cost approximately 845 EUR in salaries. After sixteen months, 1599 adults had visited the website and 1500 (93.8%) completed the survey to receive personalized sitting advice. This sample was 38.3 ± 11.0 years, mainly female (76.9%), college/university educated (89.0%), highly sedentary (88.5% sat >8 h/day) and intending to change (93.0%) their sitting. Given the small time and money investment, these outcomes are positive and indicate the potential for wide-scale dissemination. However, more efforts are needed to reach men, non-college/university educated employees, and those not intending behavioural change.Keywords:

Abstract If primary prevention is the crown of the prevention model of psychological intervention, promotion of mental health is the jewel in that crown. Of the three realms of prevention (primary, secondary, and tertiary), primary prevention is the preferred intervention according to this model. Primary prevention is divided into two functions: First, minimizing dysfunction by identifying at‐risk populations and targeting them for intensive intervention; second, promotion of emotional health and wellbeing. Of these two functions, the prevention model proposes that promotion of mental health is more far‐reaching in its scope and in the expected result of the intervention.

Cardiovascular diseases are now the world's leading cause of death. To reduce high rates of such preventable premature deaths, evidence-based approaches to heart health promotion must be disseminated across public health systems. To succeed, we must build capacity to disseminate strategies that are practical and effective. However, we know little about such dissemination, and we lack both conceptual frameworks to guide our thinking and appropriate scientific methodologies. This article presents conceptual and analytic frameworks that integrate several approaches to understanding and studying dissemination processes within public health systems. This work is based on the Canadian Heart Health Dissemination Project, a research program examining a national heart health dissemination initiative. The primary focus is the development of a systematic protocol for measuring levels of capacity and dissemination, and determining successful conditions for, and barriers to, capacity and dissemination, as well as the nature of the relationship between these key concepts.

Abstract University students in Zimbabwe lack immediate access to accurate health information. There is lack of explicit and integrated structures for disseminating health information to students in Zimbabwe. Informed by the salutogenic theory of health, the study assessed the health information needs of students and evaluated existing health information dissemination methods at National University of Science and Technology (NUST), Zimbabwe, in developing a framework for disseminating health information. A case study strategy was used to gather data within the pragmatic paradigm of grounded constructivism. The findings reveal that students need health information on a wide range of health topics and prefer mobile electronic media, workshops, qualified health professionals and peers for their health needs. There are significant gaps between the strategies that are being used by NUST to disseminate health information and the health information needs of the students. Therefore, this paper proposes a needs-based, integrated information dissemination framework for promoting health amongst students. The proposed framework emphasizes utilization of synchronous information and communication technologies, the need for integration of activities, a viable policy, health information literacy training and the use of a mix of persuasion techniques as an effective health promotion strategy.

Objective To investigate the effect of health promotion on the medical compliant behavior of the operation patients in out-patient department.Methods 240 cases of operation patients in out-patient department were subjected to healthy promotion intervention,a questionnaire was designed to investigate the outpatients' general data,health knowledge and medical compliant behavior before and after the intervention.The obtained data was statistically treated.Results There was an obvious improvement on patient's medical compliant behavior after healthy promotion intervention,the statistic analysis showed that there was a significant different before and after intervention(P0.05).Conclusion Implementation of healthy promotion intervention can improve the medical compliant behaviors,learn the special knowledge about operation,change bad living habits and lead to better health-promoting lifestyles.

The paper discussed the feasibility and effects of postgraduates' selective courses on health education and health promotion. At the end of the course, the examination and questionnaire were implemented among the students. The result showed that the course setting was resonable, and great achievements were gotten by the students.

This paper examines federal mechanisms that support program developers and researchers in disseminating effective interventions for public benefit. The purpose of this paper is not to discuss the dissemination of intervention research (i.e., how to inform stakeholders about research findings), nor is it intended to discuss the research of intervention dissemination (i.e., what is the best approach to disseminate an intervention). Rather, the paper discusses the challenges specific to finding pathways to disseminate an intervention and describes federal opportunities to support intervention dissemination. Three specific mechanisms are discussed: Federal Registries of Evidence-Based Programs, the Tiered Evidence Grant Programs, and the Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) and the Small Technology Transfer Research (STTR) programs. The article presents some limitations associated with federal mechanisms for dissemination of effective interventions, but is intended to highlight current and future opportunities they may offer.

This paper reports the results of an analysis of the dissemination of community-based heart health promotion strategies. The research draws on diffusion and socio-ecological theories to study the first 10 years of heart health promotion in the public health system in Ontario, Canada. Using case description and interpretive analysis, the study describes developments in five stages of dissemination, and examines the interplay of factors operating in the internal organizational setting and the external environment in order to explain these developments. Findings demonstrate that dissemination of health promotion is a long-term, iterative process involving multiple stages. Dissemination is influenced by a complex interplay of factors operating within the public health system (especially traditional public health practice and champions) and factors in the environment in which the public health system operates (especially research, practice information and health policies). Implications are that policy makers should take a long-term view of dissemination, identify intermediate and long-term goals consistent with dissemination stages, and capitalize on internal and external forces supporting dissemination goals. Similar case-study research in other public health systems and time periods, and in more advanced stages of dissemination, will add further insight into the dissemination process.

Promising programs developed through health promotion and disease prevention research are not always disseminated to the agencies, organizations, and individuals that can benefit from them most. Systematic and practical approaches to dissemination are needed to ensure that effective programs more often reach end users in communities. This article describes six steps used in translation and dissemination of the ABC Immunization Calendar program to public health centers in St. Louis, Missouri. The authors discuss how one health center successfully adopted this program and provide recommendations for other researchers seeking to disseminate innovative, effective health promotion programs.
