Objectives: The objectives of this study are to discuss the importance of job stress and to introduce a model of job stress at the shipbuilding industry considering the characteristics of the shipbuilding works. Background: Shipbuilding works consist of grinding, painting, interior works, welding, and assembling and using heavy equipment in narrow space or work at outside or at high and dangerous places. The working environments aggravate the stress to the workers. Methods: Studies of job stress in industries including shipbuilding industries were reviewed and the characteristics of jobs of shipbuilding were analyzed to find causes of job stress. Results: A model was constructed based upon these findings and reviews. Conclusions: Job stress of shipbuilding workers are very high and thus job and working conditions need to be improved to attenuate the level of job stress of shipbuilding workers. Applications: This model can be used to identify the highly stressed workers and sources of stress.

If managed properly, the shipbuilding industry could have a high multiplication effect. This is why it is often considered the key industry in economic develop-ment in many national economies, especially those in transition. The three major players in the global shipbuilding industry are South Korea, China and Japan. Europe is positioned forth but its market share is decreasing rapidly. This is also the case with Croatian shipbuilding industry. This paper aims to critique the level of adaptability of Croatian shipyards leader-ship to the rapidly changing environment of global industry. It also relates the question of survival and sustainable development of Croatian shipbuilding with strategic positioning of European shipbuilders. The results of this research had shown that without clusterizing the shipbuilding industry on EU integration level and not on national levels, Europe will soon loose the struggle for market position improvement or even maintenance to the far more organized Asian rivals. Findings regarding Croatian shipbuilding industry indicate absence of a viable strategy on the national level. Furthermore, the paper is trying to prove that suc-cess will be based on the possibility and will of Croatian shipbuilders to form strong collaboration and business networks with subcontractors and other institu-tions. That should not be limited only on national level, but should incorporate dif-ferent kinds of EU shipbuilding consortiums and clusters as well as other forms of strategic alliances.

During the second half of the nineteenth century important technological changes in shipping and shipbuilding resulted in the practical disappearance of an important shipbuilding industry in North America and the concentration of most of the world's shipbuilding in Britain. This shift of shipbuilding activity was quite clearly the result of the adoption of metal in place of wood as the structural material in shipbuilding. The adoption of metal was a slow process and the old and new techniques coexisted for decades. By the mid-1850's, British shipbuilders had developed the building of iron ships to a routine process and further improved their techniques in the following decades, but wooden shipbuilding in North America remained an important industry until the mid-1880's.

Against the background of the depression in shipping industry nowadays, the number of domestic shipbuilding contract disputes begins to rise.Shipbuilding contract disputes vary in category and have different causes, which naturally result in the difficulty in the application of law.Focusing on the current issues in domestic shipbuilding contracts, this paper, based on the basic theory of civil law and exploying positive approach and comparative study, analyses such issues as the legal nature of shipbuilding contracts, the application of Rebus Sic Stantibus principle, the disputes of ship defect, the effect of shipbuilding contracts when the shipbuilder lacks relevant qualification etc.,and puts corresponding solutions.

Recently a technology paradigm of ship has been changed to digital ship, IT shipbuilding convergenced technology development and Human training is very important, that is important role of making high valued shipbuilding industrial development. In this paper, we introduce IT shipbuilding convergenced education program for training human of special skill. A course of study is made of analyzing a survey of IT shipbuilding convergenced core technology in shipbuilding industry. we surveyed marine wireless communication technology, S/W solution for vessel, and CAN & SAN technology in IT filed, and ship-building design and vessel construction technology in shipbuilding field. we put in industry specialist in our education program because we have a gole of training the person are adapted immediately in shipbuilding industry.

This paper first discusses the status of the Japanese shipbuilding industry—how the industry has grown, where shipyards are located, what types of ships are fabricated, etc. It then describes historical changes of the Japanese shipbuilding industry, in the 1950's and before, in the 1960's, and in the 1970's and the future. The paper discusses advancement of ship construction technology-developments through the 1950's, in the 1960's, and in the 1970's and the future—as well as factors that contributed to the growth of the Japanese shipbuilding industry.

Abstract : This report lists and describes ten factors and associated evaluation criteria which can be used to assess the degree of implementation of advanced shipbuilding technology in a shipyard. If the U.S. shipbuilding industry is to improve its competitive position in the global shipbuilding market it must move more quickly and agressively to implement productivity initiatives. To this end, two recommendations are presented at the conclusion of this report.

The Shipbuilding 4.0 at the principles of the Industry 4.0 will transform the design, manufacturing, operation, shipping, services, production systems, maintenance and value chains in the all aspects of the shipbuilding industry.Over the last few years, the fourth industrial revolution has spread in almost all industries. The whole world is talking about Industry 4.0 which has increased implication in the manufacturing process and the future of the work. The impact of the Shipbuilding 4.0 will be significant. In the past, shipbuilding industry where continuously improved with new machines, software and new implemented organizational restructuring. In today shipbuilding industry, there are three main problems that are considered; production efficiency, the ship safety, cost efficiency and energy conservation and environmental protection. In order to create new value, the ship must become a Smart Ship capable of "thinking", and to be produced in Smart Shipbuilding Process. The aim of this article is a review of the present academic and industrial progress of this new industrial revolution wave in the shipbuilding sector called Shipbuilding 4.0 (Shipping 4.0, Maritime 4.0, Shipyard 4.0).Reviewed publications were analyzed different topics and level of improvements in the industrial aspects of the society. The implementation of the Shipbuilding 4.0 in the shipbuilding industry, presents the future, creating new value in the process, creating new demands with reduction in production and operational cost while increasing production efficiency.
