    Abstract:
    The rapid development of emerging technologies for mobile devices has enabled them to contribute strongly to the creation of new paths for learning. In this paper, a novel context-aware mobile learning application is proposed to encourage and promote hadith learning. Prophetic narrations texts or hadith are considered as a very important source of Islamic culture. This hadith learning system (HLS) uses prophetic narration texts as hadith learning resources. Three dimensions (location, time and profile) of user context are implemented. To match appropriate hadith on three context dimensions of users, context-filtering based regular expression and ontology matching-recommending techniques are used. HLS has been tested on 20 users. Two questionnaires were completed by test users. The results of both questionnaires show that our application has no serious usability problems and that the proposed system can be used to promote hadith learning along with increasing the progress of users.

    Given the rapid increasing functional features of mobile devices, there are increasing interests of preschool educators and researchers in engaging students with mobile learning. The purpose of this study is to investigate how preschool educators and parents in Singapore perceive the values of using smart mobile devices for learning in preschools, and what are their perceptions toward the potential use of mobile devices as learning tools in preschools and if 'bring your own device' (BYOD) model is implemented, what are their opinions and concerns towards this new initiative. This study used questionnaire survey and interview to collect relevant information for the investigation. Its findings would capture true experiences showcasing the actual and potential use of smart mobile devices for learning by preschoolers. The critical role that preschool principals, teachers and parents should play in integrating these smart mobile devices in their daily activities for learning were discussed and emphasised.

    Studies have been devoted to the design, implementation, and evaluation of mobile learning in practice. A common issue among students' responses toward this type of learning concerns the pitfalls of mobile devices, including small screen, limited input options, and low computational power. As a result, mobile devices are not always perceived by students as beneficial tools for their learning. Such perception undermines the use of mobile devices in learning and dampens teachers' interest in adopting mobile learning. This study tackles this issue and proposes that contextualizing the use of mobile devices can promote students' attitudes toward the use of mobile devices in learning. In other words, the use of mobile devices in learning should be in conjunction with the ambient artifacts where the user is and corresponding experience may provide the user with a positive perception toward the use of mobile devices. The proposed approach is evaluated by a sample practice to obtain preliminary supporting evidence. Further discussion is made on some innovative designs of mobile learning practices. This study is to provide a different view of mobile devices' pitfalls in learning and suggests that, relying on appropriate design, these pitfalls can be overcome to embrace a broader spectrum of mobile learning practice designs.

    M-learning utilizes handheld electronic devices as didactic tools for facilitating learning and teaching within real-time access in the language classroom. Current studies on m-learning suggest that the incorporation of electronic devices can lead to greater student engagement and better performance. Using a questionnaire, 22 professors from the major Bachelor’s in the Teaching of English as a Foreign Language from the Universidad Nacional (Costa Rica) were surveyed about how mobile devices are being implemented in the language classroom.

    This study assessed the usability of an Interactive System for Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) using the System Usability Scale (SUS). A simulation-based experiment involved 24 pilots with varying experience levels. Results showed an average SUS score of 67.4, indicating reasonably positive usability perception. Participants without prior piloting or aeronautical experiences scored lower, while those with military or technical backgrounds scored higher. These findings highlight the importance of considering user backgrounds for effective UAS control and offer insights for usability improvements.

    U.S. residential thermostats control approximately 9% of the nation's energy use. Many building codes now require programmable thermostats (PTs) because of their assumed energy savings. However, several recent field studies have shown no significant savings or even higher energy use in households using PTs compared to those using non-PTs. These studies point to usability problems that lead to incorrect use and wasted energy. However, the lack of clear, consistent metrics has hampered the acceptance of usability concerns by thermostat manufacturers. Thus there is a need for metrics specific to PTs that manufacturers can use to evaluate their products. In this paper, we report on the results of a usability study conducted on five commercially available PTs and the development of four new metrics suitable for use in evaluating thermostat usability. Our study confirmed usability deficits in the current generation of PTs and showed the metrics are correlated with each other as well as agreeing with the qualitative results of the study.

    At a unit of a hospital in the Brazilian city of Florianópolis, from the diagnosis to the administration of medicines in the inpatient, usability problems like errors were detected in the flow of medication as well as problems of greater severity. This paper aims to perform a diagnosis of usability in the inpatient unit of a teaching hospital in Florianópolis in order to identify the main problems in the flow of medication. As a method, the authors used literature review, field visits, assessments of usability principles and determination of the severity of the problems found. The step of lowest usability was the preparation, followed by the steps of dispensation, administration and prescription. As for severity, the similarity of names, colors and shapes of packages of drugs was identified as the most problematic. Beside the problems that involves the health care professionals, the hospital has problems like the environment and the products, like the packaging of medications. The usability diagnosis can help find ways to make the flow of medication more efficient and safe.Keywords: design, usability, medication errors.

    In this study we carry out usability evaluation for adjustable electric beds for home care that are used the most by the elderly, and examines dissatisfaction of users. In this sense, we performed an interview with stakeholders including bed users, developers and suppliers to develop usability evaluation contents. In addition, we carried out feasibility and reliability study over evaluation form through usability assessment, and developed usability evaluation indicator.
