Abstract:
Skin-to-skin care (SSC) has proven benefits in preterm infants, but increased hypoxic and bradycardic events have been reported. This may make clinicians hesitant to recommend SSC as standard care. We hypothesised that regional cerebral oxygenation (rStO2) measured with near infrared spectroscopy is not worse during SSC compared with standard incubator care.Prospective, observational, non-inferiority study.Single tertiary perinatal centre in Australia.Forty preterm infants (median (IQR) 30.6 (29.1-31.7) weeks' gestation) not receiving respiratory support were studied on day 14 (8-38).Recordings during 90 min of incubator care, followed by 90 min of SSC. Each infant acted as their own control and caregivers were blinded to the rStO2 measurements. The primary outcome was the mean difference in rStO2 between SSC and incubator care. The prespecified margin of non-inferiority was -1.5%. Secondary outcomes included heart rate (HR), peripheral oxygen saturation (SpO2), time in quiet sleep, temperature and hypoxic (SpO2 <80% for >5 s) or bradycardic events (HR <80 bpm for >5 s) and time spent in cerebral hypoxia (rStO2<55%) and hyperoxia (rStO2>85%).Mean (SD) rStO2 was lower during SSC compared with incubator care: 73.6 (6.0)% vs 74.8 (4.6)%, mean difference (95% CI) 1.3 (2.2 to 0.4)%. HR was 5 bpm higher, SpO2 1% lower and time in quiet sleep 24% longer during SSC. Little evidence of a difference was observed in temperature. The number of hypoxic or bradycardic events as well as the proportion of time spent in cerebral hypoxia and hyperoxia was very low in both periods.Mean rStO2 was marginally lower during SSC without observed differences in hypoxic or bardycardic events but an increase in time spent in quiet sleep. This trial is linked to Australian New Zealand Clinical Trials Registry: identifier 12616000240448. It was registered pre-results.Keywords:

This paper studies the mediating role of incubator capability for the relationship between incubator resources and incubator performance. To justify it, a survey is conducted with managers from 150 incubators in China. Three types of incubator resources influence the performance respectively through the same variable "incubator capability" but with different mediating effects.

:This article contributes two models for evolving a successful university-based technology incubator. The first model describes the necessary steps and actions required to evolve the incubator. The second model describes the elements of a successful incubator. A case study using the technology incubator at the University of Central Florida (UCF) is used to understand and describe these models. The UCF technology incubator was the winner of the 2004 Incubator of the Year from the National Business Incubator Association. An engineering manager, economic development organization, entrepreneurship support organization, or technology incubator manager can use this article to develop specific approaches to building and running an incubator.

The goal was to identify sound pressure level (SPL) at the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and inside the incubator of a teaching hospital of a public university from São Paulo - SP, Brazil. SPL inside the NICU and the incubator were measured using four dosimeters in January/2010. SPL at the NICU varied from 52.6 dBA to 80.4 dBA and inside the incubator, from 45.4 dBA to 79.1 dBA. SPL both at the NICU and inside the incubator are above the recommended values, but levels were higher at the NICU than inside the incubator. Although there are some specific factors related to SPL inside the incubator, the NICU and incubator acoustic features present a system: an increase/decrease in SPL at the NICU usually tends to increase/decrease SPL inside the incubator. The study points to the need for simultaneous monitoring of SPL at the NICU and inside the incubator.

This research presents the design and development of a chicken egg incubator. The aim is to design and construct an “Intelligent Egg Incubator” that can hatch chicken eggs automatically. In the design, author used a temperature control system that controls the temperature of the incubator. This system consists of a temperature sensor, heating and cooling elements and a controller. If the temperature of the incubator exceeds a certain value, the cooling unit will operate to reduce the temperature while if the temperature goes below another threshold value, the heating element will start to operate to increase the temperature. Furthermore, author used a motion sensor to detect the movements of the eggs. If there is a movement inside the incubator, the owner of the incubator will get the notification about the conditions of the eggs

In this study, incubator affiliations (defined as an incubator's propensity to network or affiliate with different types of external entities) of 84 business incubators in the USA and its relationship with incubator funding sources and nature of services provided were studied. Four types of affiliation-based relationships were identified: totally unaffiliated, affiliated with other incubator(s), affiliated with university, and affiliated with other incubator(s) and university. Results indicated that the incubator's affiliation influenced its ability to access funding and provide financial assistance to incubatees, as well as the nature and level of tangible/administrative and value-added services provided to incubatee firms. Based on these findings, two distinct groups of incubators were identified, each with distinctly different strategic foci, service emphasis and funding approaches. Strategy and managerial implications for both categories of incubators are discussed.

A device known as a neonatal incubator provides a contained, regulated environment for the care of premature infants. However, in recent years, mishaps caused by inadequate incubator monitoring have killed numerous preterm infants. The objective of this proposed work is to create a comprehensive system that keeps track of the baby's temperature, the incubator's air levels, and other variables using sensors. Internet of Things refreshes the information on the hospital's website so that the necessary preparations can be made to maintain the environment of the incubator. The goal of our work is to address the issues facing by and offer a cost-effective, secure tool for watching the incubator.

Preterm neonates often have to spend a long time in incubator which simulates necessary enviromental conditions to maintain patients in stable condition. Authors have found neglected problem with Carbon Dioxide (CO2) concentration in newborn inhaled gas when using “oxygen hood” into infant incubator that has not been studied very closely. Methods in this experiement were carried out as condition monitoring while changing some parameters and positions. Results have shown that CO2 level is letally high in some aspects. Situation is alarming as CO2 level in incubator is not limited by current regulation, as IEC60601-2-19: 2009 +A1:2016. Currently the Incubator manufacturers declare that CO2 maximal concentration should be periodically checked by users, which are hospitals. Some commercially available incubators have the maximum allowed CO2 level 8000 ppm, which is much higher than recommended 2000 ppm CO2 level in indoor working place. There is no limitation of maximal level of CO2 using “oxygen hood”, which are specified in incubator operation manual. This paper goal is to show the correlation of CO2 level versus gas flow into oxygen hood.

A Solar Powered Poultry Egg Incubator (SPPEI) was developed and tested to evaluate its performance, and it was compared to an existing incubator that can incubate chicken eggs within the temperature range of 35◦C to 40◦C. The main components of the developed incubator are the incubating unit, the temperature device and the photovoltaic (PV) system. The developed incubator had 73% hatchability, 71% vigorous chicks and fewer dead embryos compared to the existing incubator that had 60% hatchability, 58% chick vigor and more embryos. The developed incubator hatched chicks starting on the 18th day until the 21st day of incubation, while the existing incubator hatched chicks on the 18th day until the 22nd day of incubation. The average temperatures in the developed incubator were within the acceptable incubation temperature range: at 37.72◦C (99.89◦F) in the morning, at 37.94◦C in◦ the afternoon (100.29◦F), and at 37.83◦C (100.09◦F) in the evening, while with the existing incubator, it is within 38.67◦C (101.6◦F), 38.74◦C (101.7◦F) and 38.52◦C (101.3◦F). The average relative humidities in the developed incubator are 60% in the morning, 60.3% in the afternoon and also 60.3% in the night while that of the existing incubator are 60%, 57.33% and 59%, respectively. The egg incubator was able to maintain the optimum conditions for the hatching of the chicken eggs, and was capable of incubating and hatching the chicken eggs effectively.
