Abstract:
Most approaches for scene parsing, recognition or retrieval use detectors that are either (i) independently trained or (ii) jointly trained for conjunctions of object-object or object-attribute phrases. We posit that neither of these two extremes is uniformly optimal, in terms of performance, across all categories and conjunctions. The choice of whether one should train an independent or composite detector should be made for each possible conjunction separately, and depends on the statistics of the dataset as well. For example, person holding phone may be more accurately modeled using a single composite detector, while tall person may be more accurately modeled as combination of two detectors. We extensively study this issue in the context of multiple problems and datasets. Further, for e ciency, we propose a predictor that is based on a number of category speci c features (e.g., sample size, entropy, etc.) for whether independent or joint composite detector may be more accurate for a given conjunction. We show that our prediction and selection mechanism generalizes and leads to improved performance on a number of large-scale datasets and vision tasks. Keywords:

Abstract: Short Story is an interesting object to discuss in Discourse Analysis. Short Story as one of the literature discourse becomes an interesting item for discussing related to the devices of grammatical cohesion. In this investigation, researcher focused on Conjunction as the one of devices in Grammatical Cohesion. This investigation described on the form and function of Conjunction in the “Selected Kompas’s Short Story by Seno Gumira Ajidarma”. The data source of this research was about the sentences or utterances that contain about Conjunction in this Selected Short Story. The type of this research was Descriptive Qualitative. The data collection technique used “simak-catat” method, then the data analyzed by “agih” method by “Bagi Unsur Langsung” technique. The results of this research are conjunction that consist of 11 types and their functions. The frequencies of additive conjunction in this analysis are 85 data. They are contradictory conjunction that consist of 22 data, causality conjunction are 15 data, alternative conjunction are 7 data, temporal conjunction are 7 data, concessive conjunction are 6 data, excessive conjunction are 2 data, sequences conjunction are 2 data, objective conjunction is 1 data, conditional conjunction is 1 data, and the manner conjunction is 1 data.

Abstract A significant number of verb forms and constructions in Egyptian and Coptic have in common that they express conjunction. There is therefore room in grammars for a chapter on conjunction. Conjunction is not quite coordination and it is not quite subordination. Its essence lies in the combination of coordination and subordination (see § 65). In some constructions expressing conjunction, the hierarchy is syntactically more articulated than others.
