Abstract:
A new species of the pagurid hermit crab genus Catapagurus A. Milne-Edwards, 1880, C. insolitus, is described and illustrated based on specimens from shallow waters in Okinawa Island, the Ryukyus. It belongs to an informal species group characterized by the possession of blade-shaped ambulatory dactyli, and is morphologically most similar to C. kosugei (Asakura, 2001). However, the new species is unique within the genus in having a multispinose antennal acicle, rarely seen in species of the family Paguridae. Keywords:

The developmental stages of Pagurus caurinus Hart from first through fourth zoea and mcgalopa are described and illustrated. Intermolt durations of larvae from two females that were reared simultaneously under identical laboratory conditions were significantly different during most stages; however, morphological variations appeared to lie within the range of intraspecific variations observed in other species of Pagurus.

A new species of hermit crab, Diogenes matabiru, is described and illustrated on the basis of the specimens collected from mangrove environment in the eastern Lombok Island, Indonesia. This new species is related to D. pallescens Whitelegge, 1897 but differs in the shape of cheliped, telson and coloration in life. A key to the species of the genus Diogenes from Indonesia is also provided.
