Abstract:
This study examined the effects of perceived economic inequality and inequality of opportunity on individual preferences for redistributive policies among people in mainland China, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan. Using data from the 2009 International Social Survey Program, a series of regression analyses were performed. Results of the analyses indicate that perceived economic inequality is the most significant predictive factor of attitudes towards redistribution in all four states. Perceived inequality of opportunity was positively associated with favourable attitudes towards redistribution in mainland China and South Korea. Perceived socioeconomic status was not found to have a significant effect on attitudes towards redistribution in South Korea. Keywords:

The questionnaire investigated the teaching approaches on construction engineering students from 9 universities of Mainland China and Hong Kong. Among 4 teaching approaches, transferring and shaping approaches are popularly used in Mainland universities, whereas transferring and traveling approaches are common in universities in Hong Kong. The transferring and shaping approaches are correlated with achieving motive and surface strategy in students' learning, but the traveling approach can induce deep learning motive and deep learning strategy. Mainland universities are recommended to encourage teachers adopting student-focused teaching methods (including traveling and growing method) in higher education for improving students' learning interests and skills in professional practices.

Given the growing number of outbound tourists from Mainland China to other parts of the world, it is important that hoteliers are aware of the different needs of this group of travelers. This study examines differences in the importance ratings of hotel selection criteria between Mainland Chinese and foreign individual travelers to Hong Kong. The results indicate that Mainland Chinese travelers placed different levels of importance on the various attributes examined than did their non-Chinese counterparts. They are generally more demanding than foreign respondents, despite the fact that the budgets they allocate for accommodation are smaller both in percentage and in absolute dollars.
