Abstract:
Departments of Pathology and Obstetrics and Gynecology, Yale University School of Medicine, New Haven, CTThis study was done to assess the role of colposcopy in inflammatory lesions cervical cancers and their recurrence and residual tumours. 180 cases were subjected to colposcopy and then cytology and target punch biopsies wherever required.
As a result of the study it was found that cytology and colposcopy co-relate well at the 2 extremes of pathological findings and co-relation was 90.90% and co-relation between colposcopy and target punch biopsy was 86.6%.
The conclusion drawn was that colposcopy should be done in women with abnormal cytology reports or with abnormal p/s findings. Colposcopy is helpful in determing the most abnormal area. For a target punch biopsy and a non-incastive or a minimally invastive lesion can be visualised by colposcopy.
Also cytology, colposcopy and histopathology are to be used in co-relation with each other to derive the most accurate diagnosis of a lesion.

This new, fully revised edition of Colposcopy: A Practical Guide is a state-of-the-art guide to colposcopy, directly applicable to daily clinical practice, and a key text for all those involved in the screening and management of women with cervical cytological abnormalities. All chapters have been updated for this new edition with the latest nomenclature, staging, classification and evidence-based treatment guidelines, as well as important new material on HPV testing and vaccination. Concise text is enhanced by full-colour illustrations and flow-diagrams throughout. Colposcopy: A Practical Guide is essential reading for the British Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology colposcopy training programme and is also an important practical guide for all gynaecologists, nurse colposcopists and gynaecological oncologists.

of lymphoma; remind yourself, yet again, of the defects in Niemann-Pick and Gaucher's disease plus a long list of other romantic sounding metabolic disorders and see laid out on one page the classification of glomerulonephritis. This volume is a mine of information, vital to basic pathology, but not perhaps in the immediate diagnostic sense.Within its range fall chapters on lysosomes, atherosclerosis, and biological tumour markers as well as descriptive accounts on germ cell tumours, tropical pathology, and non-rheumatic cardiac valve disease. All the contributors are leaders in their fields, and only the really 'morbid' anatomist could fail to enjoy this edition.

Objective: To correlate the colposcopic appearances using acetic acid with histology of colposcopic directed biopsy and detection of premalignant lesions of cervix for early treatmentMaterials and Methods: This is a prospective observational study done among 80 married women aged 20 to 60 years who had clinically unhealthy cervix attending the outpatient Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of ASRAM Medical college from January 2019 to December 2019. All the patients were subjected to VIA test. Colposcopic evaluation done in VIA positive cases and the findings were noted. Colposcopy directed biopsy was taken from colposcopically suspected areas and sent for histopathological examination The finding of visual inspection of cervix with acetic acid and colposcopy were correlated with histopathological finding and compared with each other. Results The age of participants ranged from 20 to 60 years and many are para 2. visual inspection of cervix with acetic acid and colposcopy were positive in 25 (31.25%) and 24 (30%) respectively. There were five (12.5%) cases of histopathologically proven lesion. The sensitivity of visual inspection of cervix with acetic acid and colposcopy were 85% and 100 % respectively and that of specificity were 86% and 86%.Conclusion: Colposcopy and colposcopic directed biopsy should be included in screening for early detection of cancer of cervix since the accuracy of detection of cervical abnormalities is higher. Colposcopy plays a very important role in the evaluation of VIA positive cases of unhealthy cervix.

Objective:To assess the value of digital colposcopy in the diagnosis of cervical lesions. Methods:The colposcopy informations of 180 patients with cervical pathological changes were analyzed. Results:The accordance rate of colposcopy diagnosis and pathology diagnosis was 98.7%,and the positive biopsy rate was 5.4%.Conclusion:Colposcopy is a convenient, safe and reliable means to detect cervical precancerous lesions and screen cervical cancer early.Mastering the skills of colposcopy will improve the resolution, reduce the rate of biopsy and increase the rate of diagnosis.

To evaluate the usefulness of repeated liquid cytology at the time of colposcopy. We screened 5,100 women with liquid-based cytology and human papillomavirus (HPV) DNA testing. Women with any abnormal cytology result including atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance (ASCUS) or a positive high-risk HPV DNA test result were referred for colposcopy. One thousand three hundred thirty-three women returned for colposcopy with repeated cytology and cervical biopsy.Twenty-one women had less than high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (HSIL) screening cytology and cervical biopsy results; however, their repeated cytology at the colposcopy visit revealed HSIL, and excisional treatment was recommended. Repeated cytology at colposcopy significantly changed the clinical management for 1.6% (21) of 1,333 women. As an adjunct test to colposcopy, liquid cytology was similar to conventional cytology. Given current practice patterns, repeated liquid cytology at the time of colposcopy is rarely clinically useful.

An outline of the capacity of colposcopy in detection of early neoplastic changes at the ectocervix and the cervical os is given. Figures are presented of results reached by combined use of colposcopy and cytology in 6,536 women (divided into age groups of over and under 30 years) including histological findings. The results emphasize the need to use colposcopy as an additional method in cervical cancer detection.
