Abstract The thermal degradation of original and aged chloroprene rubber was studied using thermogravimetric analysis. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and differential thermogravimetric analysis (DTG) techniques were used to detect the mass loss during the temperature elevation. By the analysis of the mass loss curves through usual kinetic methods, it was possible to evaluate the different degradation processes present in the overall degradation. The activation energies of the degradation processes were obtained using the dynamic, non-isothermal Kissinger and Osawa methods and the half-width at half-high technique (HWHH). The results obtained demonstrate clearly the differences between original and aged chloroprene rubber as well as the influence of the air and N2 in TGA.

Thermogravimetric analyses of the samples were performed on a Q-1000/D derivatograph of the F. Paulik, J. Paulik and L. Erdey system of the MOM company (). The method is based on registering changes in the thermochemical and physical parameters of a substance that can be caused when it is heated by the device. The thermochemical state of the sample is described by the curves: T (temperature), DTA (differential thermoanalytic), TG (thermogravimetric) and DTG (differential thermogravimetric). The last curve is derived from the TG function.

In this paper, thermogravimetric analysis of different types/grades of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) wall panel is carried out using thermogravimetric analyzer. The data output from the analyzer is subjected to data analysis software i.e., OriginPro 2018, from which thermal attributes are find out for different grades of PVC wall panel i.e., soft PVC, hard PVC, WPVC and SPVC. The thermogravimetric attributes i.e., onset degradation temperature T i , final degradation temperature T f ,, reaction interval and the peak temperature T P from the derivative thermogravimetric curve for the four basic types of PVC were comparatively analyzed for the characterization purpose. Beside the thermal characterization, the thermogravimetric analysis also disclosed the compositional attributes of the four types of PVC wall panel. The analysis in this paper characterized the SPVC as the most thermally stable PVC wall panel followed by hard, soft and WPVC.

An apparatus is described for simultaneous high-temperature X-ray powder diffraction and thermogravimetric studies, based on a Guinier-Lenné focusing powder camera and an analytical chemical balance. No modifications are required to either instrument and the method would be readily useable with many other types of high-temperature powder diffraction systems. The technique is illustrated by a study of the dehydration reactions in an artists' plaster containing gypsum. A sensitivity to changes in weight approaching 100 μg in a 12.5 mg sample was achieved over a period of 60 h.

Thermogravimetric and derivative thermogravimetric curves of some complexes [Ni(S2CNHR)2] (R=Me, Et, Pri, Bui, But, Bz,p-MePh,p-MeOPh,p-ClPh,p-NO2Ph) in a dynamic nitrogen atmosphere were studied to determine their modes of decomposition. All these complexes show similar TG profiles. The weight losses in the main decomposition stages indicate conversion of the nickel(II) dithiocarbamates to sulphide. Reaction orders were estimated via the shape characteristics of the corresponding derivative thermogravimetric curves and kinetic analysis of the thermogravimetric data was performed by using the Coats-Redfern and Horowitz-Metzger methods.

Recently, a method of infrared spectroscopy analysis to identify melamine-contained stone was established by examining melamine powders mixed with true urinary stones. However, several studies demonstrated melamine could be interacted with cyanuric acid or uric acid in water through hydrogen bonds. It presents a hypothesis that the infrared spectrum of melamine-contained stone formed in urine is probably different from melamine-contained dry mixtures. This study is to testify is it true. The melamine-related mixtures were, respectively, prepared by mixing powders of melamine with cyanuric acid or uric acid in equimolar ratio. The melamine-related precipitates mimicking its related stone formation were, respectively, prepared by mixing melamine with cyanuric acid or uric acid in water at the given conditions. Subsequently, the melamine-related mixtures and precipitates were analyzed by infrared spectroscopy. The wave-number positions of powder mixtures of melamine-cyanuric acid and melamine-uric acid were a combination of these of their individual ingredients. The typical wave-number positions of melamine were showed in two melamine-contained mixtures. In contrast, these positions were disappeared or shifted greatly in the two melamine-related precipitates. In total, the spectrum of precipitates of melamine with cyanuric acid and uric acid had significantly differences with their powder mixtures. Our results indicate the identification of melamine-related stone by infrared spectroscopy could not use the infrared spectrum of melamine-contained mixtures as a reference.
