The transformation of classical Chinese into modern vernacular meets the need to express ideas in modern times, represents a reform in our times, and lays a foundation for the construction of modern Chinese. It is not only a kind of language phenomenon, but also a type of cultural phenomenon. It implies the renewal of people's values and involves such aspects as social development, changes or alterations of people's ideas, and so on.The development tendency of the Chinese language itself, the need to develop ideological culture,as well as the need to develop modes of thinking have led to the transformation of classical Chinese into modern vernacular.

The vernacular movement between the late Qing Dynasty and the May 4th Movement stemmed from the criticism of the Separation of Vernacular and Classical Chinese, and the advocate of the Integration of Vernacular and Classical Chinese. However, the defamiliarization of literature language requires it to possess the tendency that departs from common language naturally and made the Integration of Vernacular and Classical Chinese movement suffer from crisis both in theory and in practice. So,the Integration of Vernacular and Classical Chinese could only be a political lie.

In Guangzhou vernacular there still exists a large lexicon of ancient Chinese.Of this, some are compound words, others are binomes which can be further divided into four types. This paper discusses the vowel rhymed words in Guangzhou vernacular as left over from the ancient Chinese. These words were popular in ancient spoken language but gradually disappeared as time went by.Yet some of them still exist in the dialects passing down from generation to generation. This is proven by their existence in Guangzhou vernacular which in turn shows that Guangzhou dialect has been a branch of ancient Chinese, though these words have not been passed down throughout history without any change.

Both European and Chinese vulgarism literature have a long history. They also have a period when the classical Latin and the classical Chinese existed in the same time. But whether in Europe or in China, the vulgarism or the Chinese vernacular defeated the classical language and became the main aspect of literary composition. On the basis of this, their own literature theories about vulgarism have developed, and at last, they exchanged between of them. This paper discusses about the development and interaction between European vulgarism literature/theory and Chinese vernacular literature/theory.

In comparison with traditional literary theory written in classical Chinese.Chinese ancient vernacular literary theory is more understandable and applicable because of its poplular style of language. However, scholars in the Chinese literary circles have always embraced a negative attitude toward the critical functions of traditional views including the ancient Chinese vernacular literary theory with profound impact in the teaching practice of universities and colleges. This negative attitude has deprived the realistic value of traditional Chinese literary theories. This article, tracing the development of ancient Chinese vernacular literary theory, commenting on the views of Chinese scholars, reflecting on the significance of its application to the teaching practice, offers a probe into the contemporary significance of traditional Chinese literary theories including the ancient vernacular theory, and reveals the value of ancient vernacular literary theory for the contemporary classroom.

The debate of classical Chinese and vernacular Chinese in modern times is an important culture event.Concerning the developing direction of a language, the right and wrong in the debate can be easily decided;concerning the culture, national tradition, and the contradiction in the language it involves,to judge the right and wrong has some difficulties. With this,we can have a more thorough understanding to the movement of vernacular Chinese, the reformers and as well as the conservatives of the movement in modern times.

Hu Shi's research of classical Chinese novels is purely academic, which could be seen from his traditional academic grounding in his textual research. However,Hu's research was not confined to textual research;instead, his research also involved foreign elements at the text level, called narration.Hu's interest in narration was shown in his construction of a vernacular literary system.Classical novels,as the most important part in the vernacular literary history, could prompt the construction and popularization of the new literature with their vernacular narration. Thus, the research of classical novels is no longer purely academic;it can reveal the historical idea of the birth of modern Chinese literature.

This study deals mainly with Qian Jibo, who has not been paid attention by Korean scholars. Especially, I would like to examine a reading book called Yutiwenfan. Whereas Qian’s other books are thoroughly academic writing, Yutiwenfan is non-academic writing, which was written for modern Chinese language education only. Although it is a non-academic reading book, it has screening criteria for as well as Qian’s own ideas and criticism about the Vernacular Chinese.
Qian Jibo was unable to fully accept the Vernacular Chinese, which recognized the change in writing style due to the changing times, but lacked the style of writing. In order to alleviate this conflict in the writing of Yutiwenfan, it was necessary to select Vernacular Chinese that served as examples and incorporate them into the essay. Qian Jibo formed a Yutiwenfan based on the traditional style of writing and Chinese writing style that goes against the times, and its ultimate goal was to create a new model sentence that would reshape the order of Classical Chinese and Vernacular Chinese.

Starting from the historical development of the Chinese writings in vernacular, this paper illustrates the issue of half literate and half vernacular of modern writings. It also analyses many examples shown in the Chinese textbooks of junior middle schools and points out the modality and standardized roles which should be played by the Chinese textbooks in the historical development of Chinese writings in vernacular. The writings can make the later generations know the lively oral Chinese from the written language of modern Chinese,on the other hand it can help the junior middle school students to understand the classical Chinese writings in the vernacular Chinese textbooks.
