    In this paper, we presented a compact diode-pumped, self-generating, actively Q-switched Nd/sup 3+/:PbWO/sub 4/ yellow laser. The yellow laser output energy of 2.5/spl mu/J was obtained at a diode energy of 23mJ.

    An E-O Q-switched Nd∶GdVO_4 laser side-pumped by a diode-laser-array has been demonstrated.The characteristic difference between E-O Q-switched Nd∶GdVO_4 and Nd∶YAG laser is analyzed in pump efficiency,Q-switched performance and temperature characteristics.An output energy of 27.5mJ and a pulse width of 6.4ns are obtained.The pump efficiency is higher than Nd∶YAG lasers.
