Abstract A rapid reversed-phase high performance liquid chromatographic method is described using a C8 column and a mobile phase containing sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) as a modifier to separate the four bilirubin species present in serum: unconjugated, monoconjugated, diconjugated and biliprotein. The results show that using SDS as a mobile phase modifier improves separation efficiency and increases sample solubility. This simple HPLC procedure allows direct sample injection and makes it possible to quantitatively determine bilirubin species in biological fluids.

With the use of high performance capillary electrophoretic system, the authors developed a micellar electrokinetic chromatographic method with direct sample injection to separate and assay serum or bile fluid bilirubin subspecies. The four bilirubins, alpha, beta, gamma and delta subspecies, in serum or in bile fluid were successfully separated within 20 min. Under the concentration of combined bilirubin (bilirubin ditaurite), there was a good relationship between the concentration and the peak area. The detection limit reached 1.5 mumol/L. Being compared with the results of the first run with a concentration of 255 mumol/L and migration time of 16 min, the results of the 50th run were 238 mumol/L and 16.7 min respectively.

An evaluation of bilirubin spectrophotometry with the AO bilirubinometer as compared to an accepted diazo coupling method is presented. The bilirubinometer is a simple and accurate method suitable for monitoring total bilirubin in neonatal jaundice. The method may serve as a good complement to diazo coupling procedures in icteric newborns.

The objective of present study was to analyse the comparision between high performance liquid chromatography(HPLC) and UV-Spectrophotometry for quantitative determination of paracetamol in a marketed formulation. Rp-HPLC method involved a reversed-phase XBD C18 column thermostated at 25C, UV detection at 230nm, flow rate of 1.0ml/min and a mobile phase acetonitrile-water(25:75) was used. These methods showed good linearity over the concentration range of 220 ?g/mL. The linearity was obtained for paracetamol by reverse phase high performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC) R2=0.993 and by UV - Spectrophotometry R2=0.977. The precision and recoveries of paracetamol for HPLC and UV-Spectrophotometry methods were in the range of 99.00 -100.10 % and 99.71-100.95 %. Among these two methods high performance liquid chromatography method of analysis showed reliable results for quantitative etermination of paracetamol in a tablet formulation.
