XML-based Web Services technology is a new model of distributed computation based on a set of characteristics, loosely-coupled, language-neutral, platform-independent and open; Web Services will become the architecture of the next generation of e-commerce. However, it's because of Web Services' openness, there are some problems about security. An overview on the security problems of Web Services is presented and Web Services security techniques are studied by the paper.

With the development and application of Web services technologies,the security issues of Web services composition are increasingly prominent.The present security specifications of Web services are only specified for a single Web service,and there is no architecture for security of composite Web services being approved by most people.The insufficiency of present research on Web services composition security architecture was pointed out and the requirements of Web service composition security were analyzed.We proposed a hierarchical security model for Web services composition (HSM-WSC) based on Web services stack according to the Web service application mode,and analyzed the security function of each layer in the model.This model has the advantages of flexibility and extensibility,and satisfies various requirements of secure composite Web services.The paper also described the Implementation architecture of HSM-WSC in the end.

The Internet has provided an avenue for businesses to adopt web services. Web services promises scalability, agility, cost reduction, profitability and availability thereby meeting instant gratification needs of web users'. It refers to modular Internet-based business functions that perform specific business tasks to facilitate business interactions within and beyond the organization. While addressing web services benefits there have been discussions on the importance of its security. The security of web services has deeply influenced its development and is also one of the main reasons why web services have not been adopted widely. Therefore, this study aims to examine the impact of web services standards and how it facilitates web services security. We analyze security models in web based technologies from previous studies such as; in cloud computing and security as a service technologies to develop a framework of web services standards and its impact on web services security. We then discuss the theoretical and practical implications of web services security and directions for future research.

Web services and web service composition are a new phase of distributed computing, build on the top of distributed models. Web services are being used largely for business integration. One of the major concerns for today's businesses is to implement adequate security for web services and web service compositions. Attacks on web services can sometimes destroy entire network and also can expose organization's valuable resources to outside world. As a result of our study we present in this paper some important vulnerabilities and possible attacks on web services and web service composition. Further we have listed important vulnerabilities in context of atomic and composite web services along with possible countermeasures.

In recent years, web services have become a new concept over the open, complex internet applications. Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) is a computing paradigm emphasizing dynamic service discovery, composition, and interoperability. Web services is a technology that can be used to implement Service Oriented Architecture. XML based Web services are becoming a more pervasive foundation technology for integrating applications and exchanging data in service oriented architectures. The security issues of Web Services in a distributed environment are a major concern of research. Web Services will never attain their tremendous potential unless we learn how to manage the associated risks. Web Services can solve the problem of system integration among enterprises through its characteristics of cross platform integration, open standard and high scalability. However, while using Web Services in the business dealing, the security of message content becomes a serious issue. This induces the security demand of XML/SOAP and Web Services Security Gateway is the most typical solution. To deploy Web Services Security Gateway smoothly, this search analyzes the existing Web Services Platform and proposes the proper and suitable Deployment Model for each company of different scale, who can implement the Web services Security Gateway seamlessly even under different network condition.

Web service security is today receiving growing attention, and enterprises are realizing that effective security management is essential for earning and maintaining trust in their services. One of the major benefits of Web services is that it is possible to dynamically combine different services together to form a more complex service. Also, in this case, security issues are a primary concern. In this chapter, we focus on security issues that arise when composing Web services. We first provide an overview of the main security requirements that must be taken into account when composing Web services. Then, we survey literature and standards related to Web services composition. Finally, we present a proposal for a brokered architecture on support of the secure composition of Web services.

To evaluate the performance of Web Services after using the WS-Security,this paper established the improved time response appraisal model in the foundation of analyzing of Web Services architecture and WS-Security specification.It carried on the experiment in view of the Web Services time behavior and message size,and obtained the influence of WS-Security specification to the Web Services response time and the spatial behavior.This paper can provide the real basis of how to set the security and performance for Web Services.It has the greatly practical significance for the research on Web Services Security.

With the XML Web Services being widely used, the security problem becomes more and more obvious in Web services because of congenitally deficient. How to guarantee the data transmission security in the web environment has gradually become the consideration of entire Web project quality's key. This paper discusses how to use the WS-Security Specification to build the security of Web services by studying the Web services protocol framework and its data exchange foundation, studies the root of the popularity of Web services and its security problem foundation, and discusses how to use the WS-Security Specification to build the security Web services. Finally, a sample is given to show how to construct a safe and reliable Web Service environment with WSE.
