[reaction: see text] Treatment of primary aliphatic amines with KOH in diethylene glycol at 210 degrees C gives primary alcohols directly in good yields. A synthetic application to a model study of (+/-)-scopadulin is also described.

Various primary alcohols, and primary, secondary, and tertiary amines were oxidatively and efficiently converted into the corresponding nitriles in good yields, by 1,3-diiodo-5,5-dimethylhydantoin (DIH) in aqueous ammonia (NH3) at 60 °C.

Radiotherapy was administered to 288 patients suffering from uterine carcinoma. Before and after irradiation, the urinary bladder was measured by cysto-tonometry. Early radiationinduced reactions consisted of increased bladder tonus and decreased bladder capacity. The general reduction in bladder function during radiotherapy returned to almost normal values within one year post- radiation. Cysto-tonometry proved to be a useful tool for monitoring the urinary bladder after radiation treatment. (HBG)

A general and mild method for the N-arylation of primary and secondary aliphatic amines is reported. Copper acetate, triethylamine mediated C/N cross-coupling reaction of arylboronic acids at room temperature to solid-supported primary and secondary amines gave good to excellent yields of the desired N-arylated products.

Abstract Primary aliphatic amines are good nucleophilic reagents which easily react with dichloroacetylene (DCA). The reactions of DCA with primary aliphatic amines have been studied and a mechanism of these reactions has been proposed and discussed.
