Abstract:
OBJECTIVE: To study the chemical constituents of Lysidice brevicalyx. METHOD: Various chromatographic techniques were used to isolate and purify the constituents such as column chromatography on silica gel, Rp-silica gel, Sephadex LH-20 and HPLC. The structures were elucidated by chemical evidence and spectroscopic methods. RESULT: Seven compounds were isolated from the 95% ethanol extract of the leaves of L. brevicalyx and these compounds were elucidated as 2-0-[1-(3-methylbutyryl)phloroglucin-ol]-beta-D-glucopynanoside (1), 3-beta-D-glucopyranosyloxy-4, 5-dimethoxy-benzoic acid (2), benzyl alcohol O-beta-D-glucopyra noside (3), polydatin (4), quercetin-3-alpha-L-rhamnopyranoside (5), ethyl gallate (6), benzyl 6-O-alpha-L-arabinofurano syl-beta-D-glucopynanoside (7). CONCLUSION: All Compounds were isolated from this plant for the first time. Compounds 2, 3, 5-7 were obtained from this genus for the first time.Keywords:

Eighteen compounds were isolated by a combination of various chromatographic techniques including column chromatography over macroporous resin, MCI gel, silica gel, and sephadex LH-20 and reversed-phase HPLC. Their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic data analysis as adinoside A (1), stryspinoside (2), benzyl alcohol beta-glucopyranoside (3), benzyl 2-o-beta-D-glucopyranosyl-2,6-dihydroxybenzoate (4) , gentisic acid 2-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (5), eugenyl beta-D-glucopyranoside (6) , eugenyl-P-xylopyranosyl-(1-->6)-beta-glucopyranoside (7), (-)-lyoniresinol 9-O-fP-D-glucopyranoside (8) , (+)-lyoniresinol 9-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (9) , apigenin-7-O-L-rhamnopyranoside (10), luteolin-3 '-O-L-rhamnoside (11) , ursolic acid (12) , beta-sitosteryl-3beta-glucopyranoside-6'-O-palmitate (13), abscisic acid (14), guanosine (15), 5-methyluracil (16), trans-cinnamic acid (17), and 4-hydroxybenzaldehyde(18). These compounds were obtained from this plant for the first time.

METHODS: The compounds were isolated and purified by silica gel, Sephadex LH-20 colunm chromatography and HPLC. The structures were elucidated on the basis of spectral data and physiochemical properties. RESULTS: Nineteen compounds were isolated from 95% ethanol extracts and identified as quercetin (1), quercetin-3-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (2), quercetin-3-O-α-L-rhamnopyranoside (3), quercetin-3-O-β-D-neohesperoside (4), mearnsetin (5), myricetin-3-O-α-L-rhamnoside (6), myricetin-3-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (7), mearnsetin 3-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (8), mearnsetin 3-O-α-L-rhamnopyranoside (9), kaempferol-3-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (10), kaempferol 3-O-β-D-(2-O-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl) glucopyranoside (11), kaempferol 3-(2'', 6''-di-O-α-L-rhamnosyl)-β-D-glucoside (12), 1, 2, 4-trihydroxybenzene (13), vanillic acid (14), protocatechuic acid (15), 4-hydroxy benzoic acid (16), gallic acid (17), blumenol C glucoside (18), conocarpan (19). CONCLUSION: All the compounds are isolated from the title plant and the NMR data for 8 is reported here for the first time.

OBJECTIVE To study the phenolic acids constituents in Potentilla discolor.METHODS The compounds were isolated by silica gel chromatography,macroporous resins and polyamide column chromatography from the 70% ethanol extract,and their structures were identified by spectroscopy.RESULTS Six compounds were isolated from Potentilla discolor and their structures were identified as 3-methylellagic acid-4′-O-α-L-rhamnopyranoside(I),3,3′,4-trimethylellagic acid-4′-O-β-D-glucopyranoside(Ⅱ),3,3′-dimethylellagic acid(Ⅲ),gallic acid(Ⅳ),tormentic acid(Ⅴ)and kaempferol-3-O-β-D-6-O-(p-hydroxycinnamoyl)-gluco pyranoside(VI).CONCLUSION The Compounds Ⅱ,Ⅲ,Ⅴ,Ⅵ were isolated from this herb for the first time.

To study the chemical constituents of the 95% ethanol extract of Psidium guajava. Compounds were separated by using a combination of various chromatographic methods including silica gel, D101 macroporous resin, ODS, Sephadex LH-20 and preparative HPLC. Their structures were elucidated by physicochemical properties and spectral data Eighteen compounds were isolated and identified as (+) -globulol (1), clovane-2beta, 9alpha-diol (2), 2beta-acetoxyclovan-9alpha-ol (3), (+) -caryolane-1 ,9beta-diol (4), ent-T-muurolol (5), clov-2-ene-9alpha-ol (6), isophytol (7), tamarixetin (8), gossypetin (9), quercetin (10), kaempferol (11), guajaverin (12), avicularin (13), chrysin 6-C-glucoside (14), 3'-O-methyl-3, 4-methylenedioxyellagic acid 4'-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (15), p-hydroxy-benzoic acid (16), guavinoside A (17) and guavinoside B (18). Compounds 2-9 and 14-16 were isolated from this plant for the first time. The ethanol extract showed 61.3% inhibition against the proliferation of colon cancer cell line SW480.

Column chromatography on silica gel was used to study the chemical constituents of traditional Chinese medicine Siegesbeckia pubescens. The chemical structures of the separated compounds were elucidated by spectroscopic data analyses.
