Inflammatory myopathy is a group of disorders with progressive muscle weakness being the major symptom. Quantitative assessment of muscle function is important when evaluating the response of these conditions to treatment and various methods, including manual muscle testing, myometry and isokinetic dynamometry, have been used for the assessment of muscle strength. The aims of this study were to compare, in patients with inflammatory myopathy, the maximum isometric quadriceps and hamstrings torques using a hand-held myometer and a dynamometer (Kin-Com), and to compare make and break tests using myometry. The results showed that in stronger quadriceps the myometer tests underestimated maximum torque as measured with the dynamometer, and that in weaker quadriceps there was no difference in torque with the different methods. There was no difference in hamstrings make torques for the two instruments. The break myometer torques were greater than the make torques for both muscle groups. These findings indicate that when using myometry, break tests measure maximum torque more accurately than make tests, and that isometric dynamometry is preferable to myometry when testing maximum strength of large muscles of near normal strength.

Early postoperative pain is one of the most important problems in pediatric orthopedic surgery.Introduction of the use of ultrasound (US) has led to very important developments in pediatric regional anesthesia.We aimed to present with the literature data about that we applied the bilateral US-guided sciatic nerve block to the patient who was operated under bilateral knee disarticulation because of congenital tibia agenesis and talipes equinovarus.In conclusion we entertain that US-guided peripheral nerve blocks are effective and safety for postoperative pain in pediatric orthopedic surgery.

An assistance apparatus for upper limbs for patients who can control their finger but they cannot lift up their arms themselves, for example myopathy and hemiplegic patients, was developed. This apparatus can support to do ADL (Activities of Daily Living) motions (for instance, eating, writing, putting on making up, wiping his/her face, and so on) themselves. To confirm the effectiveness of assistance ability, we measured muscle activity while using the device, and compared the %MVC data between using the device or not. As a result, the activity decreased up to 80%, and the effectiveness of this device could be confirmed. Finally, the influence of the cerebral activity according to the difference of the operators and input devices for operation was measured. As a result, to apply in Neuro-Rehabilitation, it is effective for a rehabilitant to input the motion with a joy stick or a push switch by him/herself.

Bu çalışmanın amacı, kedilerin alt idrar yolu hastalıklarının direkt radyografi, ultrasonografi, kontrast sistografi ile retrospektif olarak değerlendirilmesi ve her hastalık için en uygun görüntüleme metodunun ortaya konmasıdır. Çalışmada farklı yaş, cinsiyet ve ırkta 134 kedi, alt idrar yolu hastalıklarının bir veya daha fazla klinik bulgusu ile getirilmiştir. Kedilerin tamamı radyografi ve ultrasonografi ile değerlendirilmiştir. Alt idrar yolu hastalığı olarak sistitis (n=20), idrar kristalleri (n=35), sistitisle birlikte seyreden idrar kristalleri (n=51), idrar taşları (n=6), idrar kesesi polipleri (n=8), idrar kesesi içindeki kan pıhtıları (n=9), idrar kesesi rupturu (n=1) ve idiopatik obstrüksiyonlar (n=4) belirlenmiştir. İdrar kesesinin opak taşları direkt abdominal radyografi ile kolaylıkla tespit edilmiştir. Kronik sistitis ve idrar kesesi rupturunun belirlenmesinde kontrast sistografi; sistitis, taş, kristal, polip ve kan pıhtılarının teşhisi için ultrasonografi kullanılmıştır. Çalışmada, alt idrar yollarının değerlendirilmesinde ultrasonografinin yeterli bir görüntüleme metodu olduğu doğrulanmış, ancak radyografi ve kontrast sistografinin de idrar taşı, idrar rupturu, şüpheli idrar yolu obstrüksiyonu ve ultrasonografi ile belirlenemeyen kronik sistitis teşhisinde yararlı olduğu görülmüştür
