Abstract:
The characteristics of digital signal processor (DSP) are investigated from the viewpoint of design and application in the article. The characteristics distinguished from other processors are elaborated from the aspects of architecture, instruction set and processing unit. The developing situation of DSP is presented; the processes from single MAC unit and complex instruction to double MAC units and complex instructions, as well as to single instruction and multiple MAC units are reviewed. And it is indicated that the application of DSP has compelled it forward rapidly. At last, the trend of development of DSP is predicted: the multi-issued DSP, embedded DSP and hybrid DSP of computation and control are the future orientations of DSP.Keywords:

Using FPGA as coprocessor to DSP can take the advantage of DSP in data processing,promote performance of the system,and strengthen the handling and controlling capacity of the whole system,which gives a low costand fast solution to design scheme in many complicted application situations.This paper expounds the process of realizing DSP function by FPGA digital logic in several aspects as the realization of data space extension,responding to multi-interrupting sources by single interrupting signal input,timing sequence conversion.This method bears teaching reference value and has the significance of guiding engineering.

The TI DSP application reference framework, RF5, based on DSP/BIOS real-time kernel, is introduced in this paper. In addition, an improved DSP application framework based on RF5 is proposed to support multi-processor and typical GPP-DSP system which is called ERF5 in this paper. By using ERF5, the GPP-DSP communication, effective task thread execution and schedule, and granule of task can be improved effectively. Finally, a real video processing system based on ERF5 is introduced and the performance of ERF5 is analyzed.

The DSP-based design and implementation of the multi-channel data acquisition system is introduced in the paper. The pa-per expatiates on collectivity scheme from the hardware and software design, and studies the extension scheme for the synchronous se-rial port of the DSP. The serial communication between DSP and PC is realized. The scheme has high engineering application value.

This paper presents a design technology from a compilation view for embedded DSP processors. Under the guidance of this method, it designs a 16 bits DSP core. This core has a data-width of 16 bits and an instruction-width of 24 bits with all the instructions completed within a five- stage pipeline. This DSP core is realized in a 0.35μm CMOS technology and can work over 80MHz.
