Abstract:
In the Ad hoc network, transmission was achieved by wireless multi-jump link of moving nodes. Therefore, development of a type of dynamic routing protocol which can effectively locate the route between the nodes was the key to design the Ad hoc network. In accordance with the features of the ad hoc network, the existed Ad hoc routing protocols and their weaknesses were analyzed to offer a method to improve typical routing protocols and provide a time-shared routing protocol for simulation. Keywords:

Mobile Ad hoc Network (MANET) is a multi-hop wireless network, without having pre-existing infrastructure and centralized administration. Each node participating in the network acts both as host as well as a router. Prominent characteristics of Ad Hoc Networks viz. Dynamic topology, Limited Physical Security, Energy Constrained operations throw challenge in the development of robust and efficient routing protocols. The Ad Hoc Routing protocols can be categorized broadly into Proactive, Reactive and Hybrid Routing Protocols. This literature is an attempt to understand the behavior of three Ad hoc routing protocols which falls in three different categories of routing. The protocols under consideration for study are Ad hoc On Demand Distance Vector Routing Protocol (AODV) which follows Reactive Routing scheme, Destination Sequence Distance Vector Routing Protocol (DSDV) is categorized as Proactive and Zone Routing Protocol (ZRP) is Hybrid in nature. The performance differentials shall provide an insight about the sensitivity of the protocols when operating in more challenging environment such as rapid change in network topology or the density of the network.

Mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) are self-configuring and variable size networks of independent mobile nodes. These networks do not have centralized management and the network topology keeps on changing due to frequent movement of nodes. Many routing protocols have been proposed to deal with routing in MANETs. Each routing protocol is designed with a unique feature to deal with challenges of routing in MANETs. In this paper, we have put together all the design patterns of ad hoc routing protocols. This work is useful to understand and analyze the design patterns of ad hoc routing protocols. This work also can be useful to design new routing protocols in MANETs.

One of well-known routing protocol for ad hoc networks is zone routing protocol (ZRP). The performance of ZRP is better than other protocols. However, many useless control packets are used resulting in the increase of network load and decrease of network performance. In this paper, we propose a selective border-casting zone routing protocol (SBZRP) to reduce the network load by limiting the number of control packets when the protocol searches for a new route. The performance evaluation via simulations shows that the SBZRP has better performance than ZRP.

Ad hoc networking is a technology still under development and there are several proposals for defining the most suitable routing protocol. The dynamic conditions of ad hoc networks do not allow having a single routing protocol that fits all possible environments. This paper presents the design of a scalable ad hoc routing protocol. The analysis of existing routing protocols is presented, and a novel routing algorithm is proposed and analyzed. The implementation of the proposed algorithm is based on well-known routing protocols such as AODV and OLSR. Moreover, we propose to extend AODV with a new broadcast algorithm to replace OLSR and implement the proposed scalable ad hoc routing protocol using AODV.

There are many researchers use NS2 to study Ad Hoc network and validate their algorithms and protocols for their network researches. At first introduces the Ad Hoc network and the general steps of simulating routing protocols in Ad Hoc network using NS2,then uses a intanse of AODV routing protocol simulation to prove the NS2 simulation is suitable and effective.

In wireless ad hoc networks, heterogeneity is inherent and each node has different characteristics, resources, and policies. Most current ad hoc routing protocols do not consider node heterogeneity when making routing decisions. Although existing ad hoc routing protocols can be extended to consider heterogeneity, these methods require changes to the routing protocol packets and packet processing. We propose a simple, transparent modification during the route discovery phase of an on-demand routing protocol to select the best route considering heterogeneity. In our solution, nodes can influence their likelihood of participating in routing packets for the other nodes, and there is no noticeable change to the routing protocol. To evaluate our solution, we modify an ad hoc on-demand distance vector (AODV) routing protocol implementation. Our solution's ability to influence path selection is studied in both a testbed and a network simulator. We show that using the method described in this paper, nodes that want to avoid routing packets for others are avoided when other routes exist.

Most Ad Hoc routing protocols select route based on shortest path mechanism, which does not take network load into consideration This paper puts forward an adaptive dispersive mobile Ad Hoc routing protocol, namely ADMAR,which is based on the traffic load of the network node. The simulation shows that the routing protocol has good stability, can distribute the traffic load of Ad Hoc network to some extend, and reduces the network hotpots.
