    Abstract:
In reviewing the supply and demand of thermal coal of 2011 both from the supply side and the demand side while looking ahead into 2012,this study estimates that the consumption of thermal coal in 2012 will reach 2.2 billion ton with an overall balance between supply and demand across the country. However, local shortages may occur at times in some areas, especially in the central China region, because of inadequate resources, limited transportation capacity, high coal prices and other factors.

Underscoring the nation's increasing energy needs, this volume of studies contributes methodologically to the econometric analysis of energy. It examines the problems of supply and demand for electricity in particular, and also for coal, natural gas, and petroleum. Econometric methods are applied to the problems of aggregate and space heating demands for fuels, the supply and demand for coal, changing economic conditions for coal extraction, and electricity costs. The volume concludes that price elasticities are high, and that energy policy should rely on the price mechanism.

Based on an analysis of China's supply and demand dynamics of the thermal coal in the third quarter, and an overlook of the supply and demand situation for the fourth quarter,it is predicted that the supply and demand for the thermal coal will generally keep balance nationwide in the fourth quarter, while a slight shortage of the coal supply would occur locally for short durations. Some recommendations are proposed to improve security of thermal coal supply.

This paper analyzes the macro economy, power supply and demand situations in the first half year of 2011.It predicts that the macroeconomic trend will become more complex in the second half year, with the power demand growth remaining stable and the electricity demand outgrowing the installed power generating capacity. It also suggests that while the conflict between coal and electricity has yet to be completely solved, the power supply-demand situation tends to be comparatively tense, with power supply shortages dominating the scene, and this trend is expected to grow. The paper provides suggestions on improving the power demand side management, addressing the conflict between the coal and electricity, and building an integrated energy transport system.

Power supply and demand has being gradually coming to its balance since the second half of 2005.The author presents a complete summary on power supply and demand of our country in 2005,a forecast analysis of power supply and demand situation in 2006 and also an expectation of power supply and demand trend in 2007.Based on the result of analysis and forecast,it is concluded that the power supply and demand will transit from electricity shortage to basic balance and this round of electricity shortage across the country starting from 2002 will end completely in 2007.

Analysis on power coal supply and demand situation in recent years is carried out and the main characteristics of coal market in 2005 are explained as:the demand growth on coal was decreasing;contradiction between supply and demand was mitigated;coal inventory was increasing gradually but coal price was still in high level.Coal supply and demand trend in 2006 is described as improvement on supply and demand balance in general but more uncertainty expected.

Electricity is an important kind of resource for human living and economic development. Power supply must meet the demand. Any power shortage will be a barrier of economic growth. However, the surplus of power generation capacity will lower the power system efficiency. How to evaluate the balance of power supply and demand is very important. There is still no such index to do that. The power supply and demand index was studied to measure the balance of power supply and demand, and to give the calculation method for nationwide evaluation of the index.
