Abstract:
Classification and ordination of the plant community from the mouth of Fen River to the Yellow River were studied using field plots, and two-way indicator species analysis(TWINSPAN) and detrended correspondence analysis(DCA).A total of 78 samples were divided into 18 associations by TWINSPAN and their community characteristics are described below. The results of DCA ordination reflected the relationship between plant community type and the environment gradient and showed that the distribution patterns of the associations were mainly affected by the water gradient of the soil. Keywords:

The classification and ordination of wetland vegetation in the Tian'ezhou Oxbows of the Yangtze River were studied using two-way indicator species analysis(TWINSPAN) and detrended correspondence analysis(DCA).A total of 234 samples collected from the wetland vegetation in the Tian'ezhou Oxbows were classified into 28 associations by TWINSPAN and the community characteristics of every association were described. The DCA ordination reflected the relationship between plant community type and the environmental gradient. The results showed that soil type and humidity were the main factors influencing the structure and distribution of wetland community. The TWINSPAN classification showed an explicit distribution scope in the DCA ordination plot, which better reflected the relationships between communities and environmental factors when combined with TWINSPAN quantitative classification.

The classification and ordination of Populus euphratica Oliv.community on the banks of Ejina River in Inner Mongolia were studied by using the two-way indicator species analysis(TWINSPAN)and distended canonical correspondence analysis(DCA).Eight quadrats selected from the community were classified into four associations by TWINSPAN,and ecological environment of each association was discribed. The results of DCCA ordination were tested and verified by the results of TWINSPAN.The ordinate and abscissa of DCCA ordination indicates the gradi- ent variations of ground water level, air relative humidity, and soil humidity to elevation of each association.Fur- thermore, the results of DCCA ordination and environment factor correlation analysis showed that the ground water was the crucial environment factor among the all to the distribution of plant community.

Based on field survey for plant community by quadrates, both quantitative and ordination analyses of plant communities in water-level-fluctuation zone within Three Gorges Reservoir Area of Changjiang River were performed using TWINSPAN (Two Way Indicator Species Analysis) and DCA (Detrended Correspondence Analysis) methods. One hundred and twenty-two quadrates collected from the study area were classified into nineteen types by TWINSPAN, and four vegetation types were identified. The result revealed a relationship between the plant communities and environmental gradients, which is also confirmed in the chart of DCA. Diagonal line of the two-dimensional ordination diagram of DCA indicated that soil water content is highly correlated to submersed duration in the areas, suggesting that the major factors restricting distribution and composition of plant communities are submersed duration and edaphic humidity. Analysis of the composition and distribution of those communities provides a baseline data for selecting plants for reconstructing water-level-fluctuation of Three Gorges Reservoir in the future.

The classification and ordination of the grassland vegetation in flood plain of the Fen river in Taiyuan were studied using two?way indicator species analysis(TWINSPAN) and detrended correspondence analysis(DCA). Sixty samples collected from in flood plain of the Fen river were classified into 17 associations by TWINSPAN. The community characteristics of every association were described. The result of DCA ordination indicated that there were obvious relationships between the distribution pattern of associations and soil water content, soil texture, artificial perturbation. Furthermore, the analysis of DCA proved the continuous change of vegetation and the environmental variation. DCA ordination of species showed that species acted as indicator for habitat factors and was impersonally reflected characteristics of biotope. Moreover, the dynamic succession tendency of the grassland vegetation in flood plain of the Fen river are discussed.

Plant communities in the modern Yellow River Delta are studied by the methods of TWINSPAN(Two-Way Indication Species Analysis) and DCA(Detrended Correspondence Analysis) in this paper.TWINSPAN classification results show that the vegetation in the study area is divided into three large groups of communities dominated by the species Suaeda salsa,Tamarix chinensis and herbage, which includes 12 community types.Three species diversity indices are used to study the changes in species richness, evenness and diversity in different communities. Diversity and richness indices increase gradually from the communities S.salsa and T.chinensis to herbage, but species evennesses fluctuate greatly in the communities S.salsa and T.chinensis.However evenness fluctuation is little in herbaceous community. Results of ordination by DCA reflect that the plant community distribution patterns are affected by environmental factors such as soil salt content and hydrological situation. In the area with high soil salt content, species composition is single and community structure is simple. In the area with low soil salt content, species composition increases and community structure is complex.

Based on the field investigation,two-way indicator species analysis(TWINSPAN) and distended correspondence analysis(DCA) were applied to analysis on the artificial vegetation in sandy hill areas of northwest Shanxi.87 samples with 109 plant species were classified by TWINSPAN into 11 associations that were located at different altitudes. The characteristics of each association were described. The results of DCA ordination were consistent with TWINSPAN classification, and indicated that the altitude, slope and soil moisture were the dominant ecological factors responsible for the flora distribution in the research areas.

Through field investigation,two-way indicator species analysis(TWINSPAN) and distended correspondence analysis(DCA) were adopted to conduct weed community classification and ordination in orchard in autumn in Institute of Pomology,Shanxi Academy of Agricultural Sciences.According to the results of TWINSPAN and in combination with the ecological characteristics of the region,69 quadrats were divided into 12 associations, and their community characteristics were described. The result of TWINSPAN reflects the relation between weed community types and environment gradient and was tested and verified in DCA.DCA ordination indicated the distribution pattern of weed community was closely related to soil nutrient, soil water and elevation. The results indicated weed community had indicating function to habitat that could objectively reflect the characteristics of habitat.

A community survey of Gexigou Nature Reserve in Yajiang was performed.Two-way indicator species analysis(TWINSPAN) and Detrended Correspondence Analysis(DCA)was respectively used to forest communities, shrub communities, and herbage communities. The vegetation of Nature Reserve was classified into twenty-one vegetation assemblages. The result of DCA reflected the relationship between environment gradient and distribution of communities.Water gradient was the leading factor for distribution of vegetation.Communities were different in different altitudinal gradient;there was clearly vertical zone in Nature Reserve.Aspect also was one factor which effected distribution of communities.Different communities scattered in the same altitudinal gradient because of different aspect, showing mosaic pattern.
