Abstract:
Based on homemade techniques,a practical Infrared imaging system was designed about pyroelectric uncooled FPA detector and better imaging effects were attained. This system boosted the developing and researching processes about the pyroelectric uncooled camera of made-all-in-my-own.The paper particularly emphasizes the configuration, key techniques and working principle of the imaging system. At last, some Infrared imaging pictures were acquired successfully. Keywords:

The latest research status of uncooled infrared detectors is reviewed. The infrared detectors are classified according to the different operation principle, and the merit of uncooled infrared detectors is particularly described. The typical detector structures are presented, compared and discussed. This paper describes the primary structures, technology and elementary indicators of several new detectors, and the development orientation of uncooled infrared detectors is predicted.

Uncooled infrared focal plane arrays have been developed which employ four detection mechanisms: resistive bolometric, pyroelectric, ferroelectric bolometric and thermoelectric. They find application in thermal imaging systems for night vision. Each of the four mechanisms is described. Figures of merit are defined. The fundamental limits to the performance of thermal detectors are presented. The state-of-the-art of the four types of thermal detectors is described and the role of uncooled focal plane arrays in thermal imaging systems is discussed.

Pyroelectric vidicons and newly developped Pyroelectric arrays give a NETD around 0.5 K for 25 Hz chopping frequency. However while Pyroelectric vidicons operate with 200 TV lines, pyroelectric arrays are limited to 64 elements in the present state of the art. This number of elements will probably increase dramatically in the next few years, and new solutions are proposed.

The signal responses under 4 states of chopper modulation in the pyroelectric uncooled focal plane array (FPA) infrared detector are investigated and their changes are worked out theoretically. The digital analog analyses of their values show that the difference in the signal response reflects the variation in dual bands for the incident emission of the scene.Hence,it is expected that by using a single uncooled Ba xSr 1-x TiO 3(BST) FPA detector,a thermal image system (TIS) may be realized for acquisition of scenic dual bands information.

Pyroelectric detector arrays have the potential to satisfy a number of infrared sensing and imaging applications because of their attractive features of room temperature operation and low cost. They are most suited to operation at moderate frequencies, in the 10 to 100 Hz region, where they can have an NETD of less than 0.2°C, limited by internal detector noise sources. An experimental imager built to evaluate linear pyroelectric arrays is described, and its performance compared with theoretical predictions.
