Abstract:
Ethernet passive optical network(EPON) is an access brand-new technology oriented to next generation network(NGN).It is a multi-service platform which can provide QoS-assured IP service and traditional time division multiplexing(TDM) service simultaneously.Therefore,based on EPON,operators can provide multi-services according to the requirements of subscribers and realize the transition to all-IP service network easily.Consequently,the architecture of EPON is introduced,and the transmission principle of downstream and upstream links is analyzed.Keywords:

Despite a rapid development in Ethernet-based Passive Optical Network (EPON) technology, problems remain in its network and application. In due consideration of actual telecom service demand featuring in distribution, research-based EPON principles and scheme selection are proposed in this article. It covers distribution principles for Optical Line Terminals (OLT), optical splitter, Optical Network Unit (ONU), and selection for network scheme. Construction and capital expenditure can be effectively reduced for telecom operators via the construction of EPON with good capability for expansion.

Recently many countries have kept studying on the methods of constructing high speed networks. Task Force team for IEEE 802.3ah has accomplished the standardization of EPON which is the next generation subscriber access network. EPON doesn't still have the bandwidth wide enough to support the new service which demands high bandwidth. Therefore 10G EPON is the next generation subscriber access network which expanded the up-down bandwidth range of 1G EPON 10 times in order to support a next generation multimedia service demanding high bandwidth and which is proceeding the standardization of physical layer in IEEE 802.3av Task Force. This paper has designed the model which can accommodate IEEE 802.1 AVB traffics smoothly in 10G EPON and suggesting the Intra-ONU scheduling model which makes this model operate effectively.
