Abstract:
Objective To investigate the correlation between serum resistin and blood lipids in old male patients. Methods A total of 220 male patients over 80 years old were selected and divided into hyperlipidemia group(n=80) and normal lipid group(n=140) according to their blood lipids level. The serum resistin concentration was measured by ELISA.Results Serum resistin level was significantly higher in hyperlipidemia group than in normal lipid group[(7.16±0.77) ng/ml vs.(6.21±0.63) ng/ml,P0.05].Serum resistin level was negatively correlated with TC,LDL-C,HDL-C(γ=-0.231,-0.254,-0.243,all P0.01),and positively correlated with TG(γ=0.127,P0.01).Resistin was independently correlated with HDL-C after controlling the age and medical history(P=0.017).Conclusions Serum resistin level is higher in old male patients with hyperlipidemia and may be related to the disorder of blood lipid. Keywords:

Objective To study the significance of leptin and serum lipid in the development of hypertensive disorder complicating pregnancy. Methods From July 2006 to February 2007,77 cases of pregnant women were divided into three groups, gestational hypertension group(group A,n=20). pre-eclampsia group(group B,n=27),and normal pregnant women group(group C,n=30).Informed consent was obtained from all participates.Levels of serum leptin were measured by the immuno-radioassay (RIA) method.Total cholesterol(TC) was measured by the COD-PAP method, and triglyceride(TG) was measured by the GPO-PAP method.Results①ANOVA showed that there were significant differences of total cholesterol, triglyceride and serum leptin among 3 groups(P0.01).②The level of serum leptin was positively connected with total cholesterol and triglyceride in group A and group C.And the level of serum leptin was positively correlated with total cholesterol, but negatively correlated with triglyceride in group B.③The serum leptin concentrations were positively correlated with body mass index(BMI),systolic blood pressure(SBP),diastolic blood pressure(DBP) in normal pregnant women. Conclusion The leptin concentration of the maternal are correlated with fat mass accumulation in the normal pregnant women. Leptin level was positively related to total cholesterol, and they may play a role in the development of hypertensive disorder complicating pregnancy. The maternal serum leptin level may serve as a marker for monitoring hypertensive disorder complicating pregnancy.

Objective: To explore the changes of blood serum C-reactive protein( CRP) 、uric acid( UA) and blood lipid in elderly patients with metabolic syndrome( MS),and then analyze the interrelation between CRP、insulin resistance、blood UA and blood lipid. Methods: The study subjects were 100 elderly patients with MS and 30 cases of normal control group. Fasting blood serum CRP was measured by using the method of the determination of immune transmission-turbidimetry,with the height, weight, waist, fasting insulin, glucose, blood lipid, blood UA and so on measured as well. The elderly subjects with MS were divided into the obesity group with MS and non-obesity group at the 28 point of BMI,with variance analysis and correlation analysis conducted. Results:( 1) The fasting serum CRP concentration in the obesity group with elderly MS,the non-obesity group and the normal control group was( 10. 46 ± 0. 78 mg / L) 、( 8. 75 ± 1. 32 mg / L) 、( 5. 26 ± 0. 89) mg / L,respectively. The difference between every two groups was statistically significant( P 0. 05).( 2) Serum UA concentration in the elderly obesity group with MS,the non-obesity group with MS and the normal control group was( 362. 88 ± 71. 45μmol / L,( 348. 89 ± 92. 21μmol / L) 、( 222. 75 ± 51. 04) μmol /L,respectively. The difference between every two groups was statistically significant( P 0. 05).( 3) Correlation analysis showed that CRP was positively correlated with HOMA-IR、BMI、TG、TC、LDL、UA and had negative correlation with HDL( P 0. 05). Conclusion: CRP is correlated with insulin resistance、blood UA and blood lipid. The basis of the metabolic syndrome is insulin resistance,so how to improve insulin resistance, decreasing the blood uric acid, and improving blood lipid will become the direction of drug treatment of metabolism syndrome.

Objective: To investigate the relationship between serum soluble E-selectin (sE) and obesity, sex, plasma glucose, insulin concentraions in essential hypertension patients. Method:Fasting serum resistin concentrations were measured with enzyme immunoassay in 179 cases with essential hypertension, and oral glucose tolerance test and insulin release test were performed in all cases for calculating glucose area under the curve (AUCG) and insulin area under the curve (AUC IN), Systolic pressure (SBP), diastolic pressure (DBP), body mass index (BMI) were measured. The correlation between sE-s and other parameters was analyzed. Result: The serum sE-s concentration (mg/L) in obese group was significantly higher (56.4±21.2)than thosein overweight group (43.5±16.6)(P 0.01)and in normal BMI group(37.8±12.9)(P 0.01), and significantly higher in male group (50.0±17.8)than in female group(41.2±16.9)(P 0.01). Serum sE-s concentrations in male group was significantly correlated with BMI(r= 0.383, P 0.01), and BMI(r= 0.353, P 0.01), fasting serum insulin concentrations(r= 0.350, P 0.01), AUCIN(r=0.413, P 0.01) in female group. Serum sE-s concentrations were not directly related to SBP, DBP, fasting blood glucose, and AUCG. Conclusion: In patients with essential hypertension, there were higher serum sE-s concentrations in both those patients with obesity and male than in both those patients with normal BMI and female. Serum sE-s concentrations were directly related to degree of obesity. Our results suggest that there are higher level of endothelial activation in both obesity and male.

Objective:To observe the changes of serum adiponectin level in patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD),and to study the correlation between the serum level of adiponectin and NAFLD. Methods: A total of 110 patients with NAFLD who were hospitalized from Feb. 2006 to Mar. 2008 were included in this study. The patients were divided into non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) group (n=52,group 1) and simple fatty liver group (n=58,group 2). Fifty-four healthy volunteers were taken as normal control (group 3). The height, weight, and body mass index (BMI) were measured in all groups. The fasting blood samples were obtained to examine serum adiponectin,TC,TG,HDL-C and LDL-C. Stepwise regression method was used to analyze relationship between the serum level of adiponectin and NAFLD. Results: The serum adiponectin and HDL-C levels in group 1 and group 2 were significantly lower than those in group 3 (P0.01); the levels of TC,TG,and LDL-C were significantly higher than those of group 3 (P0.01). The serum adiponectin in group 2 was significantly lower than that in group 1 (P0.05). Lower serum adiponectin and HDL-C levels (P0.05) and higher AST level (P0.01) were found in group 2 than those in simple fatty liver patients. In non-alcoholic steatohepatitis patients, serum adiponectin level was negatively correlated with the levels of TC,TG (r=-0.436,P0.05; r=-0.567,P0.01,respectively) and positively correlated with the level of HDL-C (r=0.524,P0.01). Conclusion: The serum adiponectin level is correlated with the severity of NAFLD patients, and examination of serum adiponectin may be helpful in understanding the status of NAFLD patients.

Objective To explore the relationship between fasting serum resistin level and insulin resistance( IR) in the elderly type 2 diabetic patients with metabolic syndrome( MS). Methods120 elderly patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus were selected and divided into the MS group( n =68) and the non-MS group( n = 52). 60 healthy elderly people were selected as the control group.Height, weight, waist circumference, hip circumference, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, body mass index( BMI),waist hip ratio( WHR) were observed and recorded in all the groups. The serum resistin and high sensitive C reactive protein( hs-CRP) levels, and the levels of fasting blood glucose( FPG),total cholesterol( TC),triglyceride( TG),high density lipoprotein cholesterol( HDL-C),low density lipoprotein cholesterol( LDL-C),blood uric acid( BUA),fasting insulin( FINS), glycosylated hemoglobin( HbA1c) were detected and compared. Results The serum resistin level of the MS group was significantly higher than that of the non- MS group( P 0. 05),and the level of the non-MS group was significantly higher than that of the control group( P 0. 05). HOMA-IR of the MS group or the non-MS group was significantly higher than that of the control group( P 0. 05). The serum hs-CRP level of the MS group was significantly higher than that of the non-MS group or the control group( P 0. 05). The metabolic indexes of BMI,waist circumference,WHR,systolic pressure, diastolic pressure,TG level of the patients in the MS group were significantly higher than those of the non-MS group or the control group( P 0. 05). The serum HDL-C level of the MS group was significantly lower than that of the non-MS group or the control group( P 0.05). FINS level of the MS group was significantly higher than that of the control group( P 0. 05).Themultiple linear regression analysis on the patients in the MS group showed HOMA-IR( β = 0.468,P 0. 05) and WHR( β = 0. 307,P 0. 05) were the related factors of the serum resistin level( P 0. 05). Conclusion There are generally IR symptoms in the elderly patients with type 2diabetes mellitus. The patients complicated with MS have the significant increased serum resistin and inflammatory mediators levels at the same time. The serum resistin level is associated with severity of IR and abdominal obesity of the patients.

To explore the relationship between serum leptin, hypertension, body mass index (BMI) and energy metabolism.Serum leptin concentrations were measured by radioimmunoassay. Blood pressure (BMI) blood sugar (Glu), triglycerides (TG), total cholesterol (TC), LDL, HDL, BUN, Cr and Ur were determined in 64 men with essential hypertension (EHT) and 54 male normotensives (NT). The correlation between leptin and other parameters were analyzed.(1) Serum leptin concentrations n = 118 (3.3 +/- 1.9) micrograms/L in 118 subjects were significantly correlated with SBP, DBP, BMI, Glu, TG, TC and LDL(P < 0.05-P < 0.001). (2) Serum leptin concentrations were strongly correlated with BMI in both EHT and NT groups (P < 0.001). The concentration level was significantly higher in EHT group n = 64 (3.8 +/- 1.9) micrograms/L than in NT group n = 54, (2.8 +/- 1.3) micrograms/L, P < 0.01). The difference in serum leptin concentrations between the two groups disappeared when BMI and age were corrected by analysis of covariance. In NT group, serum leptin concentrations were correlated with SBP (P < 0.05). (3) If the cases of overweight, underweight, hyperglycemia, hyperglyceridemia were excluded, serum leptin concentrations were still highly correlated with BMI, but no longer related to blood pressure.Serum leptin concentrations are not directly related to blood pressure, but the concentration levels are actually correlated with the degree of obesity and energy metabolism.
