Abstract:
Based on the fundamental of auto gauge control,combined with the characteristics of reversible single stand cold rolling mill,the project of gauge control system is brought forward.The feed forward AGC,Smith- predict monitor AGC,GM-AGC,gauge compensation during acceleration and deceleration in the gauge control sys- tem are detailed analyzed and studied.Aiming at the problems encountered in practical application,specific solve schemes are presented and executed in site.The application result indicates that the relative gauge error of product is within±1%,satisfying the requirement of production.Keywords:

The plate manufacturing processes are composed of the reheating furnace, finishing mill, cooling process and hot leveling. The finishing rolling mill (FM) as a reversing mill has produced the plate steel through multiple pass rolling. The automatic gauge control (AGC) is employed to maintain the thickness tolerance. The high grade products are forming greater parts of the manufacturing and customers are requiring strict thickness margin. For this reason, the advanced AGC method is required instead of the conventional AGC based on the PI control. To overcome the slow response performance of the conventional AGC and the thickness measurement delay, a fuzzy AGC based on the thickness deviation and its trend is proposed in this paper. An embedded controller with the fuzzy AGC has been developed and implemented at the plate mill in POSCO. The fuzzy AGC has dynamically controlled the roll gap in real time with the programmable logic controller (PLC). On line tests have been performed for the general and TMCP products. As the results, the thickness deviation range (maximum - minimum of the inner plate) is averagely from 0.3 to 0.1 mm over the full length. The fuzzy AGC has improved thickness deviation and completely satisfied customer needs.

BISRA AGC is said variable stiffness pressure gauge control system.It is deduced that BISRA AGC doesn't dispel itself disturb from strip mill cause of thickness deviation,but also blow up it.Therefore the loop AGC is appilied in 1 650 mm Reversing Cold Strip Mill of Tangshan Iron and Steel Company.The main problem of gauge closed loop AGC system is adaptive problem of adjuster parameters control.The practical effect is obviously good.The gauge deviation is controlled in ±5μm.

AGC system for tandem cold mill is an important technology in metal strip field.In accordance with international methods of advanced AGC control,the control schemes about AGC applications of Mitsubishi-Hitachi Metals Machinery and Siemens are compared.Especially about mass flow AGC control,the different control thinkings to improve AGC precision are analyzed.With the rolling product results,the optimize control scheme of different methods of AGC based on hardware condition are explained,and the related control scheme is finally presented for high precision strip gauge control in cold rolling tandem mill.

Automatic gauge control is an important and indispensable component part of the control system of a magnesium alloy sheet mill. The control effect influences the quality of the rolled product directly. By analyzing the composition and operation mechanism of the hydraulic AGC control system,a simulation platform of the hydraulic AGC system is set up,and sliding mode controller is designed to realize position control for the hydraulic AGC system. Simulation results showthe effectiveness of proposed sliding mode controller for gauge control.

In this paper the hardware configuration of AGC control system of a hot tandem mill is introduced,and principles of close loop control of hydraulic servo system are described.According to the practical situation of the mill,hardness and thickness feed-forward AGC, GM-AGC with variable ductility coefficient,and monitor AGC with Smith Predictor are introduced.Practical application showed that the effect of AGC was remarkable,and the range of gauge deviation along whole length of strips was lower than 80 μm.
