Abstract:
A sample of 372 cases Han(male 233,female 139) in Jiangxi Fengcheng was investigated on 5 tongue moving types, including tongue rolling, tongue folding, tongue twisting, pointed tongue and clover-leaf tongue. The results were as follows:(1) The frequencies of tongue rolling was 65.10%,tongue folding was 3.00%,tongues twisting was 19.40%,pointed tongue was 77.20%,clover-leaf tongue was 7.80%.No significant sexual difference was found in the frequencies of 5 tongue moving types.(2) The frequencies of tongue folding, tongue twisting,clover-leaf tongue were lower, and those of tongue rolling and pointed tongue were above South Asian type of populations and below North Asian type of populations in our country.(3) The results of cluster analysis showed that the tongue moving types of Jiangxi Han were similar with Bouyei and had the characteristics of the North Asian type.(4) Tongue rolling was correlative with tongue twisting and clover-leaf tongue, and twisting tongue was correlative with pointed tongue. The results showed the genes of tongue twisting and clover-leaf tongue had interactive relations with the gene of tongue rolling. The gene of tongue twisting had interactive relations with the gene of pointed tongue.Cite
A sample of 370 middle school students(215 males,155 females) of Han in Shandong was investigated on 5 tongue moving types, including tongue rolling, tongue folding, tongue twisting, pointed tongue and clover-leaf tongue. The results were as follows:(1) The frequencies of tongue rolling, tongue folding, tongue twisting, pointed tongue and clover-leaf tongue were 76.49%,8.38%,23.78%,69.73% and 3.24% respectively.(2) Compared with other ethnic groups, the tongue rolling of Han in Shandong had a higher frequency. The tongue folding and tongue twisting had middle frequencies. The pointed tongue had a lower frequency, but there was the lowest frequency in clover-leaf tongue.(3) No significant sexual difference was found in the frequencies of four tongue moving types, except pointed tongue.(4) Correlations were little among 5 tongue moving types. The gene of tongue folding had interactive relations with the tongue twisting gene, and there were gene interactions between pointed tongue and clover-leaf tongue.(5) The results of cluster analysis showed that the tongue moving types of Han in Shandong were similar with those of Han(Alxa),Han(Bayannaoer),Han(Yikezhao) and Oroqen.

336 senior high school students(125 males,211 females) of Jiangsu Han were investigated on 5 tongue moving types including tongue rolling, tongue folding, tongue twisting, pointed tongue and clover-leaf tongue. The results were as follows:(1) No significant sexual difference was found in the frequencies of 4 tongue moving types except pointed tongue.(2) Compared with other groups,Jiangsu Han had middle frequencies of tongue rolling, tongue folding, tongue twisting, and had lower frequencies of pointed tongue and clover-leaf tongue.(3) Only 4 pairs were related among the 5 tongue moving types: tongue rolling with tongue folding(the highly significant correlation),tongue rolling with tongue twisting(the highly significant correlation),tongue folding with tongue twisting(the significant correlation),tongue folding with clover-leaf tongue(the highly significant correlation). The result showed that correlations were little among the 5 tongue moving types.(4) The results of cluster analysis showed that the tongue moving types of Jiangsu Han were similar with those of Derung,Mulam and Bouyei.

A sample of 577 middle school students(277 males,340 females)of Han of Sichuan was investigated on 5 tongue moving types, including tongue rolling, tongue folding, tongue twisting, pointed tongue and clover-leaf tongue. The results were as follows: (1)The frequencies of tongue rolling, tongue folding, tongue twisting, pointed tongue and clover-leaf tongue were 56.15%,16.12%,32.76%,67.59%and 3.29 respectively. (2)The tongue folding and tongue twisting of Han of Sichuan had high percentages in Chinese ethnic groups, middle frequencies in Pointed tongue and tongue rolling, and low percentage in clover-leaf tongue.(3)No significant sexual difference was found in the frequencies of five tongue moving types.(4)The gene of Tongue rolling had interactive relations with the Tongue folding gene, and there were gene interactions between tongue rolling and tongue twisting, tongue folding and tongue twisting, cloverleaf tongue and tongue twisting.(5)The results of cluster analysis showed that the tongue moving types of Han of Sichuan were similar with those of Mulam.

Objective To study five tongue moving types, including rolling tongue, folding tongue, twisting tongue, pointed tongue and clover-leaf tongue in Man nationality of China to accumulate data for human anthropology. Methods Total of 401 samples(197 males, 204 females)of Man nationality in Liaoning Fushun were investigated on 5 tongue moving types. Results The frequencies of pointed tongue, rolling tongue, folding tongue, twisting tongue, and clover-leaf tongue were 54.9%, 52.4%, 46.4%, 19.5% and 9.7% respectively. There were significant sexual differences in the frequencies of folding tongue and pointed tongue, but not in the other tongue moving types. Conclusions Man nationality has a higher frequency of folding tongue and lower frequency of other types compared with other ethnic groups.

The tongue facilitates the food to travel through the digestive system, it has taste buds so that we can enjoy the flavor of that food, and the tongue is largely responsible for speech. The purpose of this study is to investigate the relation of the Friedman tongue position with tongue movements. 322 volunteers (166 men, 156 women) who were studying at our university participated in this study. Horizontal and vertical lines were used to determine the tongue movements. Horizontal lines passing through the mid points of the upper lip and mandible, and vertical lines passing through the right and left infraorbitale were constituted on each subject. Subjects were asked to protrude tongue maximally and downward, protruding tongue maximally and upward, and protruding tongue maximally and laterally in sitting position. The scores corresponding to the movements of tongue were compared with the Friedman Tongue position. Both protruding tongue maximally and downward and protruding tongue maximally and upward were significantly different between Friedman tongue position (p<0.001, p<0.001 respectively). The descriptions of tongue movements are very important. We conclude that the findings of this study will be a guide for other studies.
