Abstract:
To measure the viscosity of Newtonian fluid in different temperature and shearing rate,a new rotating viscometer with the function of viscosity-temperature conversion was designed based on the single cylinder rotating viscometer and relationship between the fluid and temperature.This viscometer adopted the PIC16F877 MCU as the controller,and the timer/counter(Timer0) module of PIC16F877 was used for angle measurement.Through viscosity-temperature conversion algorithm in the procedure,the viscometer can realize the viscosity measurement and viscosity-temperature conversion function.The testing results show this new viscometer can meet the request for practical application.Keywords:

In this work, a double-cylinder viscometer is designed to measure dynamic viscosity over a pressure range from atmospheric pressure up to 150 MPa and a temperature range of 278.15–333.15 K. A high-pressure closed cavity is designed innovatively and the magnetic coupling is adopted to transfer the torque to reduce the friction; the inner cylinder with ruby bearing is designed to reduce the friction torque, thus the accuracy of the viscosity measurement is improved. The experiment of measuring the standard viscosity liquid (N10 and N35) under normal pressure and measuring the viscosity of methylbenzene under the pressure of 0.1–150 MPa were carried out, and considering all the experimental data, the uncertainty of the viscosity measurements is approximately ±3%.

A straight pipe viscometer was proposed,and its measuring principle and working process were analyzed.Having measurement results compared with that of rotational viscometer shows that within 5~150mPa·s,its viscosity measurement precision can reach 3% and the online measuring viscosity can be accomplished.

Viscometer is analysis instrument which is available in measuring viscosity of liquid material. The viscometer is widely used in food, inks, paints, solvents, petroleum products and various fields of industrial production. In the field of oil drilling, viscometer is mainly used for evaluation rheological parameter of drilling fluid that is beneficial to safety, fast and scientific drilling. Circular magnetic grid could improve precision and stability when it is applied in torque measurement of automatic viscometer, and its non-contact measurement and high antipollution characteristics meet the design requirements of viscometer. The improved automatic viscometer has strong stability, good consistency and automatic reading function. According to needs of users, it would automatically draw various rheological curves.

The method of calibration of a new kind of capillary viscometers developed in our previous work as well as the operation method of the viscometer is put forward. For this viscometer, the diameter of the caplillary was selected according to the relation between the Reynolds number of the fluid and the diameter of the capillary, the constants of the viscometer were calibrated with semiempiric method and were modified at different temperatures and the other effects on the viscometer were considered. The uncertainty of the viscometer was analyzed to be less than 3%. These methods are also suitable to measure the viscosity of other fluids with low viscosity.

A digital viscometer of semi-solid was introduced,the instrument can accurately measure viscosity of different temperature and shearing rate.When drum of the viscometer rotated,it produced torque in the opposite direction.Torque sensor produced analog signals which enlarged and converted into digital signal by A/D converter,viscosity of semi-solid slurry was calculated.Data processing,viscosity value and corresponding temperature can be collected due to using torque and temperature sensor together,viscosity value beyond temperature range was removed and viscosity value under temperature range was retained.Through the test,measurement accuracy,stability and operating of digital viscometer can meet requirements of practical application.
