Abstract:
The article presents the characteristics of regional city to review the meaning of urbanization for the rational development of urbanization.China must change the way of developing urbanization.The paper analyzes two main models of urbanization: urbanization of population transfer,urbanization of structural transition.Based on the experiences at home and abroad,the new path of urbanization in China should be a dualdevelopment model for urbanization with population movement and structural transformation.Cite
This paper is about the evolution of urbanization theory at home and abroad and the latest results of the development of the urbanization——the connotation of the new urbanization.Through the sort of each stage of foreign representative theory,three urbanization patterns are summarized: the dominance of the market model,laissez-faire mode and passive development model.There are quite a lot of controversies in domestic urbanization theory research,especially on the urbanization in China.This article briefly summarizes and points out that new urbanization is sustainable development,integrated urban and rural,people-oriented urbanization.

Urbanization is generally considered the inevitable trend and a practical approach for China. According to this article, cities function as motives of regional economic growth and social progress. Urbanization, therefore, is the ultimate solution to the dual structure of urban and rural areas. Urbanization is also an effective way of rearranging the rural labor force. However, the author points out, many problems have arisen in the course of urbanization. For instance, lagging behind industrialization, unbalance in levels urbanization among regions, and presence of uncontrollable aspects of development in cities and in the countryside. The author concludes that the most suitable strategies for urbanization in China in the new century are as follows: improvement of the functions of cities, promotion of development in middle and small cities, reinforcement of regional urbanization and perfection of the marketing system.

In the article,the specific characteristics of urbanization in China is more comprehensively summarized and discussed from the views of the historical conditions,the basic national conditions,urbanization processes and the path to urbanization.We believe that the characteristics of the times,such as economic globalization,informatization,knowledge-based economy,and global resource scarcity and environmental pollution constitute the international constraints of the particularity of urbanization in China,and population,resources,stage of development,economic reform,social system and other basic conditions constitute the domestic constraints of the particularity of urbanization in China,and those constraints at home and abroad further determine the specific process and special roads of urbanization in China.

By combining qualitative and quantitative analysis,the paper provides an analysis of current stage of China's urbanization:①Urbanization in terms of household registration and vocation is catching up with the urbanization in terms of land use;②Urbanization of land and urbanization of population are still not well coordinated;③Obvious one-pole concentration of economic factors is evident in the Middle and Western areas of China;④The diffusion effect of large-scale cities is still weak;⑤Instances of incomplete urbanization are prevalent.In the end,the paper proposes a new definition of urbanization and provides some suggestions on system reforms.

The urbanization in China authentically starts after the foundation of the new China and experiences two phases of spontaneity and consciousness,which are divided by the reform and opening-up.The developing process of urbanization in China shows various characteristics,such as passiveness before activeness,faster vocational transmission than regional concentration of labor force,greater policy effectiveness than market benefit,imbalance of urbanization level between regions,and incoordination of the evolution of employment structure and industry structure.Based on the retrospect of the urbanization process and its characteristics in China,this article analyzes the level of urbanization in China and discusses the gap and trend of urbanization in order to provide basis for the research and formulation of urbanization strategies.

Can urbanization adapt to the promotim of the economic development in China with the deepening of urban reform? The authors gave in detail the Chinese urbanization evolution and features during the period from 1949 to 2008 based on the population-economy-space-social perspective,and re-measured the relationship between urbanization and urban economic development.The evolution of China's urbanization development,is divided into three stages with four characteristics.Different stages in the urban development have different characteristics mainly.The paper shows that although China has made great progress in population and economic urbanization,some new problems materialized in the same time,for example,space urbanization abnormal growth of great progress in social urbanization is neglected.This will be detrimental to the city in technological innovation;and not conducive to building the environment of innovation of industry-school-research alliance;and not to the transformation of urban development.

The process of urbanization in many countries shows that the spatial path of urbanization in a country tends to follow the cycle of urbanization-suburbanization-disurbanization-reurbanization or big city-medium city-small city.This article sorts out the theory of spatial path of urbanization such as Spatial-Cyclical Hypothesis,ROXY Index Method,Concept of Regional Urbanization and Theory of Differential Urbanization,etc and analyzes the domestic and foreign studies related.According to the urbanization practice in China,this article further concludes the implications of the theory and studies of spatial path of urbanization for the road and pattern of China's urbanization,regional planning and the study of urbanization spatial path in the metropolitans of China,etc.
