    Abstract:
Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy and side effects of quesetiapine in the treatment of schizophrenia. Methods 65 patients with schizophrenia by CCMD-3 were randomly allocated to 2 groups treated with seroquel or risperidone for 8 weeks. The Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS) and Treatment Emergent Symptoms Scale (TESS) were used to evaluate efficacy and adverse effects respectively before and at the end of 2, 4, 8 weeks of treatment. Results The therapeutic efficacy in group was similar to that in risperidone (P0.05); There was no significant difference between the two groups (P0.05). Incidence of adverse effects in the quetiapine group was lower than that in the risperidone group, but the difference was not significant (P0.05). The rates of extra-pyramidal symptoms and endocrine change were significantly higher in the risperidone group than those in the quetiapine group (P0.05). But these side effects were not serious, and patients often had good torlerability for them. Conclusions The results suggest that seroquel is as effective as risperidone for the treatment of schizophrenia, but the 2 agents have different side effects.

AIM:To research the therapeutic and side effects of Seroquel in the treatment of elder schizophrenic patients.METHODS: Thirty schizophrenic patients were treated with Risperidone as the controlled group. The efficacy was measured with the positive and negative symptoms scale(PANSS),while the adverse events were determined by the treatment emergent symptoms scale(TESS).RESULTS: The efficacy rate of Risperidone was 78%,in which 39% were improved markedly. The efficacy rate of Seroquel was 88%,in which 76% were improved markedly.CONCLUSION: It is suggested that both drugs are effective exactly in the treatment of schizophrenic patients and fewer side effects.Seroquel appears to be more effective in improving psychiatric symptoms.

Objective To explore the effect and adverse reactions of quetiapine in the treatment of schizophrenia. Methods 90 schizophrenics who met schizophrenia were randomly diveded into the quetiapine(n = 45)and risperidone(n = 45)groups. Curative effects were assessed with the positive and negative rating scale(PANSS),and side effects with the treatment emergent symptom scale(TESS)before treatment and at the ends of 1st,2nd,4th and 8th week of treatment. Results The effective rate of qutiapine group was 75. 6% higher than 73. 3% in risperidone group, which showed no significant difference (P 0. 05). Extrapyramidal side effects of quetiapine group were fewer than those of risperidone group (P 0. 05),there was no obvious difference in other factors of side effects between the 2 groups(P 0. 05). Conclusion Quetiapine has better curative effect, fewer adverse reactions and better compliance in the treatment of schizophrenia.

Objective: To investigate efficacy and safety of Aripiprazole and Risperidone in treatment of schizophrenia. Methods: 76 cases of schizophrenia in line with CCMD3 were randomly divided into two groups,38 cases in each group. They were given Aripiprazole and Risperidone for 6 weeks. The adverse reactions and clinical efficacy of the two groups were assessed. Results: The total effective rate of Aripiprazole group was 89. 47%,which was similar to that of Risperidone group( 86. 84%)( P 0. 05). There was a statistical difference in the PANSS score between the two group before and after the treatment( P 0. 05); however, there were no statistical differences in the PANSS score between the two group at each time point( P 0. 05). Six weeks after the treatment, the incidence rates of adverse reactions of Aripiprazole group were lower than those of Risperidone group( P 0. 05). Conclusions: In the treatment of schizophrenia,Aripiprazole has a similar efficacy with Risperidone, but is superior in influences on extrapyramidal reactions, endocrine and weight than Risperidone.

ObjectiveTo compare efficacy and safety of olanzapine and seroquel in the treatment of schizophrenia. Methods 98 patients with schizophrenia by CCMD-3 were randomly allocated to two groups treated with olanzapine or seroquel for 8 weeks. The Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale(PANSS) and Treatment Emergent Side effect Scale(TESS) were used to evaluate efficacy and adverse effect respectively before and at the ends of 2,4,8 weeks of treatment. ResultsThe efficacy rates of olanzapine was 93.9%,and the significant efficacy rates was 81.6%. The efficacy rate of seroquel was 91.8%, and the significant efficacy rates was 77.6%.Both drugs showed low extrapyramidal symptoms and less endocrine change during treatment. The rate of weight gain in olanzapine group was higher than that in seroquel group(32.7%:14.3%,P0.05). The rate of drowsiness and feel dizzy in seroquel group was higher than those in olanzapine group(24.5%:8.2%,P0.05; 22.4%:6.1%,P0.05). ConclnsionThe results suggest that olanzapine is as effective and safe as seroquel for the treatment of sihizophrenia and fewer side effect.

Objective To compare the therapeutic effects and side effects between quetiapine and risperidone in the treating of schizophrenia. Methods The positive and negative symptom scale(PANSS) and Calgary depression scale were used for schizophrenia(CDSS),the therapeutic effects and side effects were evaluated in 96 cases schizophrenic patients treated with quetiapine and 126 cases patients with risperidone, before therapy and the 2nd,4th,8th,12th weeks after treatment, respectively. Results The total response rates showed no significant difference between two groups. However, the recovery rates of quetiapine group showed modest higher than that of risperidone group(16.7% vs 8.7%,P=0.045).The negative and depressive factoral scores of PANSS,and the CDSS scores in quetiapine group were signifficant higher than those in risperidone group(P0.05).On the other hand, the prevalence of extra pyramidal system(EPS),such as akathisia, tremor and total EPS events in quetiapine group was significantly lower than in risperidone group. Conclusion The therapeutic effects and side effects through 3-month therapy of quetiapine showed different from those of risperidone.
