Objective To evaluate the therapeutic effects of enalapril combined with indapamide in the treatment of diabetes accompanied with hypertension. Methods Sixty-four patients were chosen according to the diagnostic criterions of diabetes and hypertension made by WHO and WHO/ISH respectively in 1999. The patients were divided into Group A(test group) and Group B(control group) randomly. Group A was given enalapril (10 mg) and indapamide (2.5 mg ) per day for 12 weeks. Group B was treated with enalapril (10mg) per day for 12 weeks. Blood pressure was measured by mercury sphygmomanometers at the same time of different days before, during and after the treatment. Liver function, renal function, cardiogram and HbA1c were measured both before and after the treatment. Results For the blood pressure, there was a highly significant difference before and after the treatment in Group A, P0.01, and there was a significant difference between Group A and Group B after the treatment,P0.05. For the therapeutic effects, there was a significant difference between Group A and Group B, P0.05. Conclusions Enalapril combined with indapamide has better effects and fewer side effects compared with the single drug in the treatment of diabetes accompanied with hypertension. The combination therapy can control the blood pressure to an expected aim value.

SummaryA single-blind, multicentre trial was carried out in 251 patients with essential hypertension to assess the effectiveness and tolerance of treatment with indapamide. After a 2-week period on placebo, patients received 2.5 mg indapamide daily, as a single dose, for a further 2 months. The results showed that there was little change in blood pressures after placebo but a significant reduction in systolic and diastolic blood pressure, both in supine and standing positions, after indapamide. Adequate blood pressure control was achieved with indapamide alone in 63 % of the 138 patients with mild hypertension, and in 52% of those with moderate hypertension. Non-limiting side-effects were observed in only 7 patients, and there were no significant biochemical changes except for a statistically significant but slight decrease in sodium, potassium, chloride, and calcium levels.

Objective:To evaluate the efficacy and tolerability of perindopril (2 mg) and indapamide (0. 623 mg) compound versus indapamide sustained-released tablets in patients with mild to moderate hypertension. Methods: A randomized, double blind, multicenter, parallel control clinical study enrolled 231 patients (aged 18 to 65 years old) with essential hypertension (95 mmHg≤sitting DBP 115 mmHg and SBP 180 mmHg). After the patients experienced a 2-week washed out period, they were randomized to administer either perindopril 2 mg / indapamide 0. 625 mg (n = 116) compound or indapamide SR 1. 5 mg alone ( n = 115 ) once daily for 6 weeks. At the end of this 6-week course of therapy, patients with sitting DBP 90 mmHg continued the medication regimen, and patients with sitting DBP≥95 mmHg were tapered onto the perindopril 4 mg / indapamide 1. 25 mg compound once daily in the bi-therapy group or received an added-on therapy with indapamide SR 1. 5 plus metoprolol 50 mg once daily in the mono-therapy group for additional 6 weeks. Patients underwent an ABPM pre-treatment and post the 12-week course of therapy. Results:52 out of the 107 patients (48. 6% ) tapered the drug regimen up in the bi-therapy group and 52 out of the 96 patients (54. 2% ) received the adjunctive therapy in the mono-therapy group after the first 6-week course of the therapy; the P value of changing drug regimens in the bi-therapy and the mono-therapy group showed no statistical difference ( P = 0. 43 ). The patients in the bi-therapy and added-on-therapy experienced a reduction of DBP ( average down value 12.4 mmHg versus 13.6 mmHg,P =0. 191 ) and a decrease of SBP (average down value 15.4 mmHg versus 15. 7 mmHg) at the end of the second 6-week course of therapy. The ABPM values showed significant improvements during the treatment in both groups. The mean trough/peak ratio (TPR) of DBP in the bi-therapy and added-on-therapy group was 80% and 47% , respectively. Common adverse events included cough, rhinitis and hypokalaemia. No significant difference was found in the incidence rate of these adverse events in patients with bi-therapy and added-on-therapy. Conclusion: The perindopril and indapamide compound offered an alternative therapy for patients with hypertension.
