Summary. Two groups of men were retrospectively selected according to their observed success in in-vitro fertilization. Seminal and post-migration sperm samples from a low fertilization rate group (≤33% cleaved embryos) have been compared to results obtained from a high fertilization rate group (≥ 66%). It was found that a low mean value of the amplitude of lateral sperm head displacement and an increased percentage of abnormal acrosomes were related to in-vitro fertilization failure. None of the individual sperm factors studied was found to determine in-vitro fertilization success with certainty; only when they were considered in combination was it possible to predict the likelihood of successful in-vitro fertilization of human oocytes.

Objective To evaluate the influence of psychological intervention on pregnancy rate of in vitro fertilization-embryo transfer. Methods Using the key words, including in vitro fertilization-embryo transfer and psychological, the data were retrieved from CNKI,CBM,VIP,Wanfang and PubMed.The quality of eligible studies was evaluated by two reviews independently and Meta-analysis was conducted on studies. Results Totally thirteen Chinese studies and three foreign studies were included. Conclusions Psychological intervention using in the process of in vitro fertilization-embryo transfer can improve the pregnancy rate, which is worthy of clinical application. Maternal mortality related to ruptured ectopic pregnancy remains elevated. A case is presented of heterotopic pregnancy in a patient whose pregnancy was assisted with in vitro fertilization. The patient's diagnosis was delayed, potentially because of lack of tachycardia associated with the hypotension. The clinical presentation of heterotopic pregnancy is similar to that of ectopic pregnancy. The risk factors for heterotopic pregnancy are the same as those for ectopic pregnancy, with the addition of in vitro fertilization, which increases the risk substantially.
    Heterotopic pregnancy
During a four-year period in vitro fertilization (IVF) was carried out in 2,356 cycles. The pregnancy rate per transfer was 24% while the incidence of ectopic pregnancies was 7.5% per pregnancy. There were seven cases of heterotopic pregnancies-simultaneous intra- and extrauterine pregnancies (1.5% among all IVF pregnancies). Two of them were diagnosed after tubal rupture of the ectopic pregnancy and five cases were diagnosed by ultrasound at the 7th or 8th week of gestation. Laparotomy and subsequent salpingectomy was carried out in six cases while in one case the ectopic pregnancy was removed by laparoscopy. Three out of the seven heterotopic pregnancies (43%) were successfully continued with normal intrauterine embryo development and delivery.

We report 4 cases of heterotopic pregnancy following in vitro fertilization. All 4 patients were treated by surgical removal of the ectopic pregnancy products. In 3 patients, the intra-uterine fetus was alive prior to surgery. Two of the 3 gave birth to a healthy baby while the third pregnancy has progressed uneventfully for 12 weeks since the operation.
