The aim of this work is an analysis of the process of growth and an assessment of the physical fitness of children and youths with short stature. The material contains results of a long-term investigation of the growth of boys and girls with the diagnosis: simple body height deficiency (hypostatura simplex). The investigation was carried out in Swietokrzyskie Province, Poland, in the years 1980-1997. It comprised 471 individuals: 143 girls aged 5-18 years and 328 boys aged 5-19 years. A different degree of the skeleton age is connected with a different dynamic of growth of short-stature girls and boys. Pubescent increase in the rate of growth occurs in individuals with a considerable retardation of the bone age later, particularly among boys. The growth process lasts longer in them, therefore, the final body height is achieved later and it is greater in individuals whose bone age is concordant with the calendar age. The level of physical working capacity of short-stature children does not show any significant difference in comparison with that in individuals with correct body height, and relative values of the indicators of physical fitness, related to body mass, are even higher in short-stature children. Individuals with a greater body height deficiency are characterised by a lower level of physical fitness.

In part Ⅱ, are presented the results of the physical measurements, which include standing height, body weight, shoulder width and grip strength, made on children of middle school and children's homes. Pelidisi index is calculated by using Pirquet's formula. In tables 1 to 6 are tabulated the average results of boys and girls of ages from 12 to 18 years old. Since the results of children's homes differ from those of the middle schools, they are tabulated separately. The differences in standing height and body weight of these two groups of children are shown in figures 1 and 2. The children from the Homes are considerably shorter and lighter than school children of the some age range. The boys tend also to be narrower in shoulder width.Compared with the physical measurements of the children of Shenyang in the northeast China, the Cantonese children are slightly taller and heavier at the beginning of this age range but the children of the Northeast grow at a slightly more rapid rate, so that at 18 years of age, they are about 2 cm taller, with approximately the same body weight.Hand grip measurements show that girls have only 2/3 the grip strength of boys. Values of Pelidisi are calculated for a]l the children. It is found that this index does not proper]y represent the nutritional status of the children of Canton. By all the other indices of the state of nutrition used in this survey, the school children are rated as having a higher nutritional status, than those of the children's home, while the Pelidisi ratcs them lower.Nutrition is considered to be one of the factors which causes differences in the growth and development of the various groups of children compared.

Comparing the 3~6 years children's physique difference in the health tests in 2005 and 2010 in Hubei ethnic minority areas,we find that the average height of 4~6 years boys reduce 3.4cm,1.4cm,1.4cm respectively, and the average height of 4~6 years girls reduce 4.1cm,1.5cm,1.7cm lower respectively. The peaceful pulse of 3~6 years children in the test of 2010 increase 5 times. The chest measurement, upper arm skinfold and scapular skinfold increase significantly in 2010's test for 5 and 6 years children. The ability of children's standing long jump, the time of balance beam walk and the length of throwing tennis decrease significantly in the test of 2010.The conclusion is that the children's body fat increases and the physique state decreases in Hubei ethnic minority areas,so the department concerned must attach more importance to the children's physical growth and development, and take some intervention measures.

Abstract Background: The aim of the study was to analyze the secular trends in height, weight and body mass index (BMI) of children in a Turkish primary school in a 23-year time interval. Methods: The height, weight and BMI of 1099 children between 7 and 15 years old were measured. Data were compared to those of children of the same ages from previous measurements carried out in 1993 (867 children) and in 2003 (1214 children) in the same school. The changes in weight, height and BMI were determined and analyzed statistically. Results: Weight increments between 7.7 and 16.2 kg/23 years and height increments between 1.1 and 8.3 cm/23 years were observed in boys. For girls, weight increments between 6.5 and 13.4 kg/23 years and height increments between 1.3 and 7.2 cm/23 years were indicated. Usually, there were significant height increments between 1993 and 2016 in both genders. However, there were no significant differences in height between 2003 and 2016 for all age groups. Furthermore, there were significant differences in BMI measurements in all age and gender groups between 1993 and 2016. Conclusions: The secular ascending trend in height seems to stop between 2003 and 2016; however, increments in weight and mean BMI tend to continue in Turkish primary school children and adolescents.

Comparisons are made among means for measures of body size on 160 samples of 4-year-old children. The samples assembled were drawn mainly between 1950 and 1960 in Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, North and South American, the West Indies, and the Malay Archipelago. Variables examined are standing height; sitting height; body weight; width, depth, and girth of head; chest circumference; hip width; lower limb length; and girth of calf. At age 4 years, contemporary populations of children are found to differ as much as 7 inches in mean height and 13 pounds in mean weight. There is moderately strong, positive association of height and weight averages among coeval groups.

Objective To analyse height, weight, body area and body mass index of Dong juniors in Hunan. Methods We measured the height and the weight of Dong students (male 486, female 496, from 7 to 17 years old), and calculated their body area and body mass index. Then we drew the corresponding curve of them, and compared with students in China. Results Height, weight, body area and body mass index of Dong students in Hunan increased with age, but it's high, speed growth time to boys was in 11~15 years old, and to girls was in 10~14 years old, respectively. There were significant differences for body mass index by sex after 14 years old. For body area, it was larger on girls than on boys in 9 and 14 years old. After 15 years old, the gap of body area got clearer and clearer by sex, it was larger on boys than on girls. Conclusion The development of height, weight, body area and body mass index of Dong juniors in Hunan are worse than that of students in China.
