Abstract:
Through component analysis of the asphalt materials,it can be find that natural asphalt contains more asphaltenes and resin.Incorporation of petroleum asphalt can greatly change the original matrix asphalt component proportion, form new asphalt colloid system and composition.High-temperature durability have been greatly improved, especially the most prominent Sichuan natural rock asphalt. Keywords:

Asphalt concrete is a paving material that consists of asphalt binder and mineral aggregate. The asphalt binder acts as a binding agent to glue aggregate particles into a cohesive mass and also functions to waterproof the mixture; for this reason it is a very interesting construction material with which to work. The asphalt binder has limitations as many materials, and these conditions are being studied by researchers with the objective to obtain the ideal asphalt. An ideal asphalt must have a special viscosity performance in three temperature intervals as follows: 1) Lower viscosity with respect to the original asphalt at the temperatures between 100°C and 160°C to provide benefits at which asphalt mixes are produced and placed; 2) Higher viscosity than the original asphalt at the temperatures between 52°C and 82°C to reduce permanent deformation problems; and 3) Lower viscosity with respect to the original asphalt at temperatures lower than 25°C to reduce fatigue-cracking problems. In this study a new additive has been developed to obtain ideal asphalt. Adding this additive into the asphalt makes it possible to obtain the ideal asphalt performance. Also, using this additive, the problem of asphalt oxidation is reduced as well as the moisture sensitivity in the asphalt mixtures.

The performance of base asphalt and modified asphalt by natural rock asphalt are studied. This paper presents the results from a series of assessments of properties of asphalt binders, which incorporate natural rock asphalts produced from China. Asphalt binders’ properties were measured by penetration, Ring and Ball softening point, ductility and four component analysis tests. Test results showed that the addition of natural asphalt reduces the penetration and ductility value, and increases softening point. The temperature sensitivity of modified asphalt is reduced.

Asphalt suffers from a series of aging processes in the natural environment. This is a significant factor in asphalt pavement diseases. Research of the properties of the decay processes in the natural weathering of asphalt will be helpful in distinguishing the characteristics of the various types of asphalt and in the selection of pavement materials. Neat asphalt A70, a styrene‐butadiene‐styrene‐ (SBS‐) modified asphalt, and crumb‐rubber‐modified asphalt AR are exposed to outdoor conditions to weather naturally. This process is traced by testing the basic physical properties and the surface free energy of asphalts, using the sessile drop method. Results illustrate that the basic physical properties of asphalt change significantly during the natural weathering process and that the rubber asphalt has the superior aging resistance, while the neat asphalt A70 has a high aging susceptibility. Furthermore, the presence of the SBS and rubber‐powder modifiers transforms the change trend of the surface free energy of neat asphalt. The adhesion work between aggregate and asphalt can be used to quantitatively evaluate the adhesive properties between them. Meanwhile, the presence of moisture between the asphalt and aggregate changes cohesive failure into adhesive failure.
