    Abstract:
    Longan germplasm resources are very important to the breeding and the study of biotechnology.The research on genetic relationships of germplasm resources can provide scientific basis for exploring the origin,evolution,classification,breeding and application of longan germplasm resources.In this paper,the prospect and urgent problems of longan germplasm resources are discussed.

    An effective germplasm program involves four major facets: acquisition, maintenance, evaluation, and enhancement. This chapter includes those major facets, with primary emphasis on U.S. oat germplasm. Several organizations, institutes, laboratories, boards, and committees in the USA and around the world focus on a variety of problems concerned with germplasm conservation and utilization. The International Board for Plant Genetic Resources (IBPGR) was established in 1974 to create and coordinate a worldwide network of germplasm resource conservation centers. The IBPGR has been effective in assisting various international, regional, and national research centers in acquiring, multiplying, storing, documenting, evaluating, and distributing germplasm. Base and working oat germplasm collections are maintained at several locations around the world. The Directory of European Institutions Holding Crop Genetic Resources Collections indicates that Avena germplasm is held at more than 40 locations in Europe.

    Germplasm resource is very important to the modern breeding and the study of biotechnology.The research on the genetic relationships of germplasm resource can provide scientific basis for exploring the origin, evolution, classification and for tea breeding and application of tea germplasm resource. A brief review is presented in this article on the study of the genetic relationships of tea germplasms in the morphlogical characters,chemical characters and chromosomal structure,isozyme and DNA. And the way in which to study the genetic relationships of tea germplasm resource in the future is discussed.

    Based on the analysis of the status of apple trade and production, and the construction of 4 apple germplasm resources repositories in China , the advances in research on the collection and conservation of Malus Mill. resources are summarized. The techniques for apple germplasm resources identification and evaluation are described, which include the identification and evaluation of agronomic and quality characteristics, dwarfing characteristics, apomictic capacity and so on. The data of the identification and evaluation for 501 accessions of apple germplasm resources have been processed with modern computer techniques, and mutually informative databases of apple germplasm resources have been established. At present the creation and use of apple germplasm resources are embodied in three major respects, such as breeding of new apple cultivars, new dwarfing rootstocks and utilization of apomixis of species in Malus Mill. The programs and emphasis of research on apple germplasm resources in China are suggested.

    Abstract This chapter deals with the taxonomy (in the scion and rootstock gene pool), origin, domestication, preservation of germplasm resources, breeding methods (including hybridization) and DNA-informed breeding (discussing quantitative trait loci and diagnostic DNA tests) of cherry species. The seed anatomy, extraction, dormancy breaking and germination are described.
