    Abstract:
    By exploiting the supramolecular assistance of a sterically encumbered phenanthroline-Cu(+) motif, we report on the self-assembly of a trigonal nanoprism, its post-self-assembly functionalization, and transformation into a cage-like 3D framework with distinct compartments.

    Two experiments were conducted to study the effects of number of nipple waterers (NW) per four-bird, deep cage (30.5 × 45.7 cm deep) or shallow cage of exact reverse dimensions and location of these waterers on productivity of commercial strain of White Leghorn layers reared in floor pens equipped with either dome or trigger cup waterers. The pullets were housed in laying cages at 18 wk of age. In both experiments, cage shape had no significant effects on the variables measured. Location of NW effects varied between experiments; hens incages with NW located in the front of the cage had a significantly (P<.05) lower rate of lay (1.7%) in Experiment 2 and less mortality (5.4%) in Experiment 1 than those in cages with NW located in the rear. Location of NW had a NS effect on water consumption in both experiments. Number of NW per cage significantly (P<.05) affected water consumption in both experiments. Hens in cages with two NW consumed 32.5 and 36.7 mL/hen day more water in Experiment 1 and 2, respectively, than those in cages with one NW.

    This study tries to analyse the type of sasanian crowns by looking into the icons and meanings of various motifs that changed the archetype and shape of the crowns, and the social and political factors that affected those motifs. Based on such analysis, the study is aimed at completing the periodic typology of the sasanian crown. For this study the literature research is combined with the empirical analysis of information. Korymbos which symbolizes globe represented the authority and power of the sasanian kings, but the motif with such meaning was replaced by star motif in the late-sasanian crowns. The basic motifs embellishing the sasanian crown represent Gods, which is interpreted as an attempt to symbolize the relations between Gods and kings. These motifs are found on each king's crown in a different and individual way, which seems because the kings at the time chose the motif that can symbolize their own political intention or spirit. At the early days of the sasanian dynasty, Korymbos motif was highly emphasized on the crowns, and was used throughout the end of the dynasty and then was replaced by star motif. From the mid-4th century, Crescent motif started to be used, which was always shown as the shape supporting Korymbos and star motif on it. Bird wing motif was intermittently used in the early and middle days of the dynasty, and was highly emphasized in the crowns of all the kings in the end of the dynasty. Star motif started to be used in the end of sasanian dynasty.

Pullets (Ross Rangers) reared commercially either in cages or on deep litter were tested for their responses to small (0.38 × 0.43 m) and large (0.76 x 0.86 m) cages with wire floors and to small and large cages with litter floors. 2. When tested at 29 weeks of age, the birds' responses were significantly affected both by cage size (large preferred to small) and by flooring (litter preferred to wire). 3. No difference in cage preference was apparent between cage‐reared and litter‐reared birds either when they were first tested at 17 weeks or when they were re‐tested at 29 weeks. Birds do not have to be reared on litter in order to be attracted by it.

    In this study, we will review the dragon motif in Anatolian Turkish legends that were compiled from verbal, written and electronic environments and moreover, we will examine the fundamental frame of the cultural background of this motif. Firstly, we will look at the place of legend, motifs, and the dragon motif in other cultures, later looking at the dragon motif in Anatolian Turkish legends. When we review the fundamentals of the cultural elements of the dragon motif, we will specifically provide information about the beliefs and thougts of Turks. With this method, we may able to see changes of dragon motif from past to today in parallel to Turkish civilization. Moreover, the dragon motif based on Stith Thompson's Motif Index of Folk Literature will be compared to motifs of different world cultures. Lastly, reviewed dragon motifs will be scrutinized from the perspectives of cultural life and cultural economy and how they could be used in the mentioned field. It is the third dimension of folklore, that is, supporting of updating folkloric production and representing it to the market in a renewed state will be attempted.

    Abstract The regularly occurring Homeric motif τρὶς μέν … τρὶς δέ shares key characteristics with both formulas and type scenes. Like a formula, it is a group of metrically localized words that refers regularly to the same idea. Like a type scene, it describes a series of discrete events that feature ‘repeated attempts to do something, often by two different characters’. This motif evokes the same basic theme in the narratives of both Homeric poems: a vigorous hero gains the sympathy of the audience in the course of repeated attempts, usually in vain, to surmount a powerful opposing force. As with many forms of narrative repetition in Homeric epic, most of the instances of the τρὶς μέν … τρὶς δέ motif display regular narrative patterns, and then a few key scenes elaborate on those patterns in order to create moments of outstanding poetic and emotional force. Highly developed examples of this motif make significant contributions to the aristeia of Patroclus in Iliad 16, the death of Hector in Iliad 22 and Telemachus’ attempt to string Odysseus’ bow in Odyssey 21.
