In this essay, I write from a positionality I call “place privilege,” a location I share with people like Donald Trump because we comment from where we were born, raised, and live. I attempt to challenge the limits and also use the privilege of that positionality to offer a rethinking of caravans coming from Central America as coalitions in motion, as calls to an ethical relation, and as weapons of the weak.

Ability privilege describes the advantages enjoyed by those who exhibit certain abilities and the unwillingness of these individuals to relinquish the advantage linked to the abilities especially with the reason that these are earned or birth given (natural) abilities. Privileges linked to various groups (e.g. male, race, class, gender) are discussed in the literature. I submit that ability privilege, a dynamic pervasive in society, ought to be discussed. The lens of ability privilege allows for analyzing the dynamic of what ability advantages are seen as earned vs. unearned not only across traditional social groups (e.g. race, class, gender) but also between the social group dualistic of the ability-have and ability-not-have which allows one to look at ability 4 Associate Professor Community Rehabilitation and Disability Studies, Past President of Canadian Disability Studies Association and member of the board of the Society for Disability Studies.

The concept Privilege may be inquired in two perspectives.Broadly speaking,it consists of the standard teacher's privilege and the nonstandard one.However,strictly speaking,the notion Nonstandard Teacher's Privilege always equals to what we called Privilege.In order to standardize the jargons used in the research,we advocate the concept Privilege in its narrow sense.The formation of the teacher's privilege mainly stems from the teacher's right to educate,the cultural tradition of the society and the educational resources from the teacher himself.

The attorney-client privilege is the most sacred and important privilege in our legal system. Despite being at the center of daily practice, the privilege still remains a mystery for many lawyers. This is primarily because the privilege is not absolute, and there are certain actions or non-actions that may waive it. The application of the privilege is further complicated by electronic discovery, which has both benefits and drawbacks. On one hand, it has made the practice of law more efficient. On the other hand, it has made it easier to inadvertently waive the attorney-client privilege in response to a discovery request. This iBrief examines attorney-client privilege issues that may arise during e-discovery, and provides practical guidelines for attorneys responding to e-discovery requests.

This study explores the experiences of privilege among multiracial college students guided by two research questions: (1) How do multiracial students define and identify privilege? And (2) In what ways do multiracial students see experiences of privilege influencing their sense of racial identity? Through interviews with 16 college students at a large, public university in the U.S. Midwest, three themes were found: (a) naming privilege without much ownership or connection to race; (b) identifying and accessing various forms of multiracial privilege; and (c) reflecting on the responsibilities that come with privilege. The findings provide advancements in theory regarding multiracial students’ experiences with privilege toward creating new practices that educate students on the complexities associated with understanding privilege in relation to multiracial identity.

Previous literature on social identities focused largely on the oppression of people with marginalized identities without much attention paid to privileged, or dominant, group members. In conclusion to this special issue on privilege, I synthesize the authors’ contributions and current research on various forms of group privilege. The authors vary in their approach to dissecting privilege, either intersectionally or examining a single group's privilege. This body of work is imperative to the growing academic field of Privilege Studies, as well as encouraging more mainstream discourse about privilege and oppression.

The word “privilege” has become a part of our everyday conversations. However, it is not evident whether the various interlocutors in discussions on privilege are using it in the same sense. While different instances of privilege like white, male, or caste privilege have been discussed in contemporary academic discourses, we believe there is a lack of clarity regarding the notion of privilege. We critically analyse existing accounts of privilege to show that they leave some room for improvement. We offer an alternative account of privilege as “entitlements that fail to track deserts” that circumvents prevalent definitional ambiguities and emphasises the inherent undeserving nature of privilege. The hitherto underexplored links between privileges, deserts, entitlements, and rights can help us formulate a more accurate grasp of privilege.

This paper launches a discussion for using privilege to understand migrant self-employment. Migrants are a heterogeneous and complex group, yet migrant self-employment studies have not yet considered how privilege provides opportunities or gains. Using mixed-methods this paper explores the role of privilege in migrant self-employment. Life course histories are combined with full-population register data to understand migrant self-employment and to provide a sense of privilege in process. Findings reveal theoretically and empirically how privilege shapes self-employment for women migrants in Sweden with certain groups benefitting more from privilege.
