We have compared the machinability of spheroidal graphite cast iron with that of cylinder cast iron, ordinary cast iron, and cast steel by measuring the durability of cutting tools, the cutting force, and the type of chips. The durability of cutting tools has been measured by applying the facing method, and the cutting force with S. E. M. lathe tool dynamometer. We have obtained the following conclusions.(1) The durability of tools in case of cutting spheroidal graphite cast iron is much larger than that of ordinary cast iron and cylinder cast iron, but smaller than that of cast steel.(2) The cutting force in case of cutting spheroidal graphite cast iron is slightly larger than that of cylinder cast iron.(3) The chip type in case of cutting spheroidal graphite cast iron is much better than that of cylinder cast iron.

Influence of Over-Cooling the Nodular Cast Iron to the Graphite Form in the Surface Layer A cast iron is gradient material. This means that depending on the cooling rate it is possible, at the same chemical composition and the physicochemical state of molten metal, to obtain material with a different structure. The connection between the wall thickness of the casting and the speed of its cooling expresses the casting module. Along with the module escalation a cooling rate of the casting is reducing what can cause changes of the microstructure and the increased tendency to the crystallization of distorted graphite forms. Inspections of experimental castings from nodular cast iron with different modules were conducted to the graphite form.

Abstract The fatigue behavior of cast iron is usually investigated on machined specimens. Components of cast iron, however, have a casting skin. Therefore, the investigation of the influence of the casting skin on the lifetime is of interest. To study this influence, isothermal fatigue tests were carried out on heat resisting spheroidal graphite cast iron EN GJS SiMo 4.05 in 4-point bending setup at 400 °C. Specimens with and without casting skin were investigated comparatively. The number of cycles to failure was significantly lower for specimens with casting skin. Metallographic investigations underline the reduction of lifetime caused by casting skin.

The formation mechanism of pinholes in gray cast iron and the relation ship telween the surface tension of liquid cast iron and formation of pinholes are demonstrated. The relationship tetwween the surface tension of liquid cast iron and its graphite cry stalloid form aftor soei dification is studied,at different temporatures,in which the conten is of the meuts in cast iron are consant other than that Mg and Re.The result shows that the graphite form of the cant iron could te predicted ty measuring the surface tension of the Liquid cast iron.

After analysing the cause of SG cast iron defect, this paper found out the method for solving these problems.Any careless omission can affect the quality of cast due to the complicated casting process, such as moulding sand moisture, casting temperature and casting system, and so on.Therefore we must operate carefully following the steps to ensure the quality of cast and produce good cast.

The cast iron material widely used in vehicle engines commonly used cast iron cylinder liner. However, due to the microstructure of gray cast iron, wear resistance, poor corrosion resistance;and compacted graphite cast iron with gray cast iron mechanical properties in addition to things, with good strength, fatigue strength, instead of gray cast iron with compacted graphite cast iron for engine cylinder Mechanical properties of materials, life, weight, size, and many have great advantages.

The article considers the problem of cracks formation in cast-iron molds during the casting of zinc blocks. The analysis of casting technology for manufacturing of cast-iron molds is performed. Changes of the construction of cast-iron molds is implemented to ensure the directional solidification. The analysis of thermal cycles of cast-iron molds during its operation is performed. It is established that the most dangerous moment of crack formation is the beginning of the pouring of molten zinc in the cold cast-iron mold. The new composition of the separation insulating coating, which reduces thermal shock and the probability of crack formation is developed.

Along with the development of new diesel engine, the higher demand have been brought forward in material of engine casting. Now the HT250 can not satisfy the new engine casting material. In eighty and ninety years, the engine casting material came from HT200 to HT250,now it is the era from HT250 to high performance cast iron. For the high performance cast iron, one is the high performance grey cast iron like HT280,another is the compacted graphite iron.
