    Abstract:
Recent studies have shown that International medical graduates (IMG) comprise a substantial and increasingly larger share of the medical workforce, internationally. IMGs wishing to work in English-speaking countries face many challenges. And overcoming such challenges plays an important role in ensuring a more comfortable transition and improved outcomes for patients. This study addresses one such area of concern: the efficient acquisition of advanced language competence for use in the medical workplace. This research also addresses the needs of medical students and practitioners in other countries, where English is not the primary language. Medical terminology and phrasing is based on a tradition spanning more than 2500 years—a tradition that cuts across typical linguistic and cultural boundaries. Indeed, as is commonly understood, the language required by doctors and other medical professionals varies substantially from the norm. In the present study, this dynamic is exploited to identify and characterize the language and patterns of usage specific to medical English, as it is used in practice and reporting. Overall, constructions comprised of preposition-dependent nouns, verbs and adjectives were found to be most prevalent (38%), followed by prepositional phrases (33%). The former includes constructions such as “present with”, “present to”, and “present in”; while constructions such as “of … patient”, “in … group”, and “with … disease” comprise the latter. Preposition-independent noun and verb-based constructions were far less prevalent overall (18% and 5%, respectively). Up to now, medical language reference and learning material has focused on relatively uncommon, but essential, Greek and Latin terminology. This research challenges this convention, by demonstrating that medical language fluency would be acquired more efficiently by focusing on prepositional phrases or preposition-dependent verbs, nouns, and adjectives in context. This work should be of high interest to anyone interested in improved communication competence within the English-speaking medical workplace and beyond. What is already known on this subject : * International medical graduates make up a substantial portion of the medical workforce * Imperfect medical English creates challenges for international medical graduates * Subideal language impacts credibility and has been associated with increased risk to patients What this paper adds : * Preposition-dependent terms, following Germanic usage patterns, dominate medical English * Complex terms derived from Greek and Latin are far less prevalent than assumed * Medical English learning expected to be expedited by focus on preposition-dependent terms

Teaching the terminology of clinical procedures in medical English classes can be a challenge. However, by using video, which is an excellent tool for showing language in operation, medical students are more likely to understand, learn and be able to use words and phrases pertaining to this overspecialized terminology. The present paper gives examples of home-grown exercises for watching purposes that can be used in the course room, with a special focus on the language skills developed by each video-based teaching material.

Medical students should study and enlarge their medical terminology from their medical English courses as well as bilingual courses. This ability is a key part in the cultivation of high-levelled medical talents. However, medical words are special from general English in three parts:long, great in numbers and difficult to read. These characteristics leave the medical students in a hard situation in their promotion of medical terminology. If the students are provided and guided with a convenient and efficient software based on modem education technology, they can achieve much better results. The audio medical English terminology corpus can help the medical students achieve their goal in promotion of medical termi-nology. This paper aims to review diachronic processes of Korean medical terminology in terms of the refining of words, and to discuss some word formation issues about Korean medical terminology in the dictionary of Urimalsaem. In medical terminology, there have been steady attempts to simplify the terminology since the late 1980’s. The Anatomical Terminology (3rd edition, 1990) is a representative dictionary which replaced many Sino-Korean words originating from Japan with native Korean expressions. The Medical Terminology (3rd edition, 1992) adopted vocabulary of the Anatomical Terminology, and many native Korean medical terms appeared in the fourth edition (2001) of the Medical Terminology. There are some characteristics of word formation in the new medical terminology. Overall the move from Sino-Korean words to native Korean words, derivation using affixes, the active use of verbs, word formation based on syntactic constructions, the use of bound root, and characteristic combinations by shape features are mentioned.

Nowadays a lot of job offers in the foreign countries more often need the requirements of adequate foreign language professional communication. Highly specialized job positions require the mastery of professional language and the associated professional terminology as well, which is necessary for professional communication in the specific field of work. This is also true in the medical field, where the mastery of professional medical terminology should be the most preciseness. Medical terminology is constantly developing, completing and enhancing as the result of scientific research advance and use of new approaches, methods and the appearance of new diseases and syndromes. There are currently about 170, 000 medical terms. These include drug names, names or identifications of body parts, organs and parts of the organs, the names of body functions, the names of diseases, examinations, operational methods and interventions. The active medical vocabulary should contain at least 6,000 to 8,000 terms. Furthermore, each medical subdiscipline forms its own terminology all the time, but the experts from related fields do not often understand it. In our paper we focus on a brief history of medical terminology, its development, current medical terminology and some particularities of the German medical terminology.

The development of ICT and the popularization of smart devices are affecting not only politics, economics and culture but also even education. Smart education, a concept that promotes active learning based on the latest mobile technology, is being noted for a new paradigm in education of the $21^{st}$ century. The aim of this study was to develop a mobile application, Smart Medical Terminology(SMT), allows health science students to learn medical terminology anytime, anywhere, easily and conveniently. The SMT makes learners interested in and motivated to learn medical terminology. It also provides various learning methods that enable self-direction learning in accordance with the level of learners.

Studying medical language, medical terminology may appear as a rather marginal science for medical doctors and its use might appear at first side as relatively irrelevant. This article aims at giving some examples of the usefulness of medical terminology for medical practitioners.
