Abstract:
This work presents a hybrid distributed service oriented architecture (SOA), which exploits the agent paradigm to process the local knowledge and define associated semantic Web services. Task-oriented agents achieve decision making activities, by eliciting knowledge coded in proprietary file formats and then transforming this knowledge into deployable web services. Synergistic integration of fuzzy technologies and semantic Web methodologies represents a seamless background-layer for improving the semantic discovery and composition of Web services. A simple case study in medical context validates the applicability and the flexibility of this approach.Keywords:

The Semantic Web is a Web defined and linked in a way that it can be used by machines not just for display purposes, but also for automation, integration and reuse of data across various applications. In order for computers to provide more help to people, the Semantic Web augments the current Web with formalized knowledge and data that can be processed by computers. It thus needs a language for expressing knowledge. This knowledge is used to describe the content of information sources, through ontologies, and the condition of operation of Web services. This work presents the state-of-the-art in the development of the principles and technologies that will enable the Semantic Web to become a reality.

One major aim of the Semantic Web is to enable a machine-processable Web of data. Hence, the Semantic Web community regards it as extension of the traditional web. On the other hand, the applications of the Semantic Web rely deeply on web technologies in order to work in a distributed fashion, world-wide. The goal of this special issue is to bring together contributions from these communities to address the challenges in Semantic Web and Web technologies in cooperation. The papers included in this special issue demonstrate how new technologies of the Web and Semantic Web complement each other and provide more contributions to the area of web technologies. The semantic part of this special issue, which contains substantial theoretical and empirical contributions to Semantic Web, is published in Open Journal of Semantic Web (OJSW).

A semantic-based Web mining is mentioned by many people in order to improve Web service levels and address the existing Web services which is supported by the lack of semantic problem. Semantic-based Web data mining is a combination of the semantic Web and Web mining. Web mining results help to build the semantic Web. The knowledge of Semantic Web makes Web mining easier to achieve, but also can improve the effectiveness of Web mining. This paper firstly introduces the related knowledge of Semantic Web and Web mining, and then discusses the semantic-based Web mining, finally proposes to build a semantic-based Web mining model under the framework of the Agent.

This paper gives an overview of the main ideas and the research progress of Semantic Web Mining. Seman- tic Web Mining utilizes the semantic data extracted from the traditional Web or uses the semantic structure of the Se- mantic Web directly to help Web Mining. It combines two fast-developing research areas Semantic Web and Web Mining. This idea is to improve, on the one hand, the results of Web Mining by exploiting the new semantic structures in the Web; and to make use of Web Mining, on the other hand, for building up the Semantic Web. The Semantic Web is not a separate Web but an extension of the current one, in which information is given well-defined meaning, better enabling computers and people to work in cooperation. It is also referred to as Web 3.0 and is an upcoming technology. The Semantic Web is a web of data. The Semantic Web is about two things: it is about common formats for integration and combination of data drawn from diverse sources and about how the data relates to real world objects.
