Abstract:
This study examined the potential biomedical properties of a bark extract from Pinus massoniana Lamb (PMBE). Its antioxidant activity, superoxide anion radical scavenging and free radical scavenging activities were examined. The antioxidant activity in a linoleic acid emulsion increased with increasing amounts of PMBE, with 100, 300 and 500 microg PMBE inhibiting 64.7%, 68.6% and 76.6% of peroxidation, respectively. Similarly, the radical scavenging activity by PMBE increased in a dose-dependent manner, suggesting that there may be a correlation between the antioxidant and scavenging activities. In addition, the effect of PMBE on human hepatocellular carcinoma BEL-7402 cells and normal liver L-02 cells was investigated in vitro. PMBE appeared to inhibit selectively the growth of BEL-7402 and slightly promoted the growth of L-02. Taken together, the results indicate that PMBE is a natural antioxidant that could potentially be used as a food supplement or as a candidate precursor substance for new anticancer therapeutics. Keywords:

The experiment was carried out to investigate the differences in physiological characteristics and the resin yield of Australian hybrid pine in Huangmian Forest Farm. The result was comparatively analysed with Pinus massoniana,Pinus elliottii Engelm and Pinus caribaea. The experimental results demonstrated that hybrid pine growed better than the others under the same condition.Pinus elliottii Engelm had the higest resin yield, followed by Pinus caribaea, hybrid pine and Pinus massoniana.Comprehensive analysis of these results showed hybrid pine is an excellent tree species for both timber and resin.

In this paper, the effect of cutting length, temporal planting time and transplanting time on survival rate, height and basal diameter of Pinus taeda,Pinus elliottii and Pinus massoniana cutting seedlings has been studied The results showed that because of difference of biological properties among three tree species, suitable cutting length, temporal planting time and transplanting time are different The suitable temporal planting time and transplanting time of Pinus taeda is December 30 and April 10,the best cutting length is 4~8 cm; the suitable temporal planting time and transplanting time of Pinus elliottii is January 15 and April 10,the best cutting length is 12 cm; the suitable temporal planting time and transplanting time of Pinus massoniana is December 15~30 and April 10,the best cutting length is 6~8 cm

The growth characteristics of Pinus taeda and Pinus elliottii introduced from America were compared with that of the native Pinus massoniana. The results in the fifteenth year indicated that under the same condition of site and cultivation,Pinus massoniana showed the best growth performance, while Pinus elliottii showed the best performance in stem form and branching angle.Comprehensive speaking, one superior family from Pinus taeda and Pinus elliottii and three families from Pinus massoniana were selected as breeding and extension materials.

The growth characteristics of Pinus taeda and Pinus elliottii introducing from South America, were contrasted with Pinus massoniana of native The result showed that under the same condition of site and bending, overseas pinus is better than Pinus massoniana, the growth of Pinus elliottii is superior to Pinus taeda and Pinus massoniana obviously during age 1 to 20,As a short period fast growing and high yield plantation Pinus elliottii is a recommended seed which adaptability is quite well

s Conformation, identification of pharmacognosy character and micrology tissue structure as well as physical and chemical identification and the content of the components of the leaves of Panax ginseng C. A. Mey. were studied . This would provide the base for identifying medicinal materials and enlarging the source of medicine.

With the same condition of site and fostering, the growth of Pinus elliottii was superior to Pinus taeda and Pinus massoniana obviously during the age of 1 to 20.The growth and adaptability of overseas pines were not as good as pinus massoniana during the age of 20 to 30.As a short-rotation fast growing and high yield plantation, Pinus elliottii was a recommended imported species which adaptability was quite well.Pinus massoniana was a master tree in the poor site condition, land, low intensive management and high altitude area.

Abstract A Pestalotiopis sp. was isolated from the trunk bark of Pinus taeda. The fungus was cultivated in liquid medium and produced three highly oxygenated caryophyllene sequiterpene derivatives, named pestalotiopsolide A, taedolidol and 6-epitaedolidol, respectively. The sesquiterpenes were isolated by silica gel based chromatographic procedures and their structures were elucidated by NMR spectroscopic data.

OBJECTIVE To identify two original plants which were used as Tibetan medicineDida systemically in pharmacognosy, and provide the scientific evidence for identification and application.METHODS Two original plants were compared by original plant identification, morphological and histological identification, microscopic indentification, thin layer chromatography(TLC).RESULTS The differences of Swertia mussotii Franch.and Halenia elliptica D.Don were obvious in original plant morphology, microscopic characteristics and TLC.CONCLUSION Two original plants of Tibetan medicine Dida are completely identified by the methods.
