The thermal behaviour of some antiallergic drugs belonging to different groups of antihistaminics, such as phenyltoloxamine, chlorpromazine, clemizole and meclozine was examined. Thermogravimetry, derivative thermogravimetry and differential thermal analysis curves were used for the elucidation of the mechanisms of thermal decomposition. The melting temperatures of the compounds and their thermal stabilities were determined. The stability was found to decrease in the order: clemizole > chlorpromazine > meclozine > phenyltoloxamine. The kinetic parameters of the thermal reactions were calculated and their values are in accordance with the results obtained, especially those of the stability. Infrared spectroscopic analysis of the compounds together with their thermal decomposition products was performed in order to establish the possible sites of decomposition.

The thermal dissociation of N-phenylbenzohydroxamic acid was studied by differential thermal analysis (DTA) and thermogravimetry (TG). The DTA curve showed two exothermic peaks caused by melting and/or decomposition of the compound.

The nature of the crystallization water in some hydrates with different cations, namely: MnSO4?H2O; FeSO4?7H2O; CoSO4?7H2O; NiSO4?7H2O, has been studied by the application of the following non-isothermal techniques: thermogravimetry (TG), derivative thermogravimetry (DTG), and differential thermal analysis (DTA). Analysis of the characteristic thermogravimetric data (Tm, W ) and of the kinetic parameters (n, Ea) calculated from DTG and DTA data - with CuSO4?5H2O as a reference - demonstrated the existence of crystallization and anionwater in the studiedhydrates. The activation energy of the process of anion water elimination does not depend on the nature of the cation. This conclusion was confirmed by the absence of the compensation effect in this process.

Fourteen sulphonamides have been thermally analyzed using thermogravimetry (TG), derivative thermogravimetry (DTG) and differential thermal analysis (DTA). Their thermal reactions and stabilities have been thoroughly studied. It was found that the sulphonamides are first transformed into sulphanilamide. The melting points of these sulphonamides have been determined through their DTA curves and by the Kofler microscope, the results agreeing with those reported in the literature. The amount of water of crystallization has been calculated from the TG and DTG curves. Analysis of mixtures of some sulphonamides has been achieved by thermal analysis and by thin-layer chromatography using different solvent systems.

In this study, modem simultaneous thermal analysis instrumentation is employed to obtain valuable thermal response behavior of a three primary component porcelain ceramic formulation containing kaolinite, feldspar, and silica. The silica component consisted of both crystalline quartz and amorphous silica. The thermal analysis data obtained in this study provide information related to the behavior of the raw materials in the mixture during the firing of the formulation to produce the porcelain product. The types of thermal analysis data obtained in this study were differential thermal analysis (DTA), thermogravimetry (TG or TGA), and derivative thermogravimetry (DTG). These data were obtained experimentally in our laboratory using a single computerized simultaneous thermal analysis (STA) instrument.
