Abstract:
Background: Adequate provider-patient communication is viewed as an important aspect of good quality (cancer) care, supports patients' stress control, and can positively influence health outcomes. Objective: The objective of this study was to describe nurse-patient communication in 2 consecutive follow-up consultations after head and neck cancer, with or without a partner present. Methods: This was a descriptive observational study of 17 video-recorded, coded, and analyzed consultations of 10 head and neck cancer patients and 6 partners. Results: Nurses adequately responded to about 25% of patients' and partners' emotional cues. In almost 75%, nurses responded to cues using distancing behaviors. The majority of informational questions of both patients and partners were adequately answered. Comparison of consecutive visits showed small differences for patients' and partners' cue-emission and for nurses' responsive behaviors between visits 1 and 2. Conclusion: Nurses adequately responded to informational questions from patients and partners. However, they seemed to be less observant of and able to address emotional cues. Communication on nurse-patient-partner interaction deserves further research in a much larger sample and over a longer time period. Implication for Practice: Nurses' awareness of the importance of adequate cue responding is vital, as is the choice to "unlearn" the predominant distancing behaviors. The needs and the role of the patients' partner in consultations and managing consultations require further attention in training and professional practice.Keywords:

Objective To explore the role of head nurse in the management of high quality nursing. Method Effectively providing high quality nursing service by renewing ideas, changing nursing mode, focusing on construction of high quality nursing connotation, and strengthening nurse team consciousness. Result The nursing service quality and patient satisfaction was improved, and the nursing safety was effectively guaranteed. Conclusion Head nurse plays a crucial role in the management of high quality nursing.

Objective: To cultivate nurses’ human-oriented thinking way, increase the specialty nursing ability, enhance nurses’ quality and improve working style. Methods: Nursing quality management was enhanced by using case rounds and evaluative rounds as a method of professional study. By giving patients self-designed health cards, care, health education and rehabilitation training were synthesized and nurses interacted with patients and their families. Results: Nurses had same attitude towards nursing quality standards, a good study atmosphere had produced, the nursing service notion renewed, and the initiative and responsibility of nurses were increased. Conclusion: Nursing rounds could cultivate nurses’ observation and analysis ability, coping and resolve ability, communication ability and could establish close nurse-patient relationship.

Objective Make use of nursing quality feedback notebook as the information exchange platform between the head nurse and the rest nurses to facilitate continuous improvement in nursing quality.Methods The head nurse can examine and discover the nursing problems at any time by establishing the nursing quality feedback notebook.She can put forward the problems,inform the nurse involved in time,rectify the measures to improve the nursing quality.Results The scores on nursing quality,the degree of patients's satisfaction and nurses' satisfaction on modes of management has improved quite a lot.Nursing defects and nursing complaints has decreaed obviously(P ＜0.01).Conclusions Nursing quality feedback notebook can facilitate continuous improvement in nursing quality,prevent and reduce the nursing safety problems,provide the safe and comfortable nursing for the patients.

Objective To improve the quality of nursing at night through setting up nursing group director.Methods Through the evaluations of professional skills,quality control and phase examination,the qualified nurses were selected as the group directors to fulfill the relevant duties and responsibilities,and receive corresponding welfare.Results This practice effectively prevented the nursing accidents,enhanced the quality of nursing records and quality of nursing works of assistant nurses at night.The head nurse could easily control the working situation at night.Moreover,this practice raised the patients' satisfaction,reduced nursing disputes and improved the general quality of nurses.Conclusion The establishment of responsibility mechanism by group director improved nurses' working enthusiasm and ensured the quality of nursing at night.

Objective: To analysis the influencing factors of the clinical nursing work instruction effect of nursing ward-round. Methods: By holding head nurse ward-round contest, the nursing department analyzed 40 nursing ward-rounds which were con- ducted by head nurses. Results: There were four factors influenced the clinical nursing work instruction effect of nursing ward-round. Those were case report of primary nurse, the physical examination of head nurse, the evaluation of the ward-round made by head nurse, and the head nurse’s instruction and discussion of nursing problems. Conclusion: The clinical nursing work instruction effect of ward-round can be improved by control- ling the influencing factors of ward round quality.

Objective: To change the traditional nurse scheduling model to improve the nursing care quality. Methods: The combination of nurse pre-scheduling and head nurse allocation was used to arrange nurses' shifts. Results: Nursing management and clinical nursing practice met the purpose of the high quality nursing service. Nursing service satisfaction rate rose from 92.8% to 98.9%. Conclusion: The improved nursing scheduling model got accept from both nurses and patients. It could increase nurses' work enthusiasm and patients' trust degree, and ensure the quality of holistic nursing care.

AimsThe aim of this systematic review was to critique research examining the use of nurse-led clinics for head and neck cancers.Method This review was conducted using the Pickering systematic literature review framework.Searching during November 2021, research published between 2011-2021 from the databases MEDLINE, Scopus, PsychINFO, Cochrane and CINAHL was appraised using the Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool (MMAT), descriptive quantitative analysis and thematic analysis.Results A total of 134 articles were recovered, with 13 studies included for analysis.Of these, seven were cohort studies, four were observations-based and five were randomised control trials.Furthermore, 12 of these studies highlighted the role of an outpatient clinicbased nurse practice, and four were based on the generalised role of an advanced practice nurse.Of all 13 studies, only one was based in Australia, with the majority based in either Europe (7) or the USA (8). ConclusionNurse-led clinics for head and neck cancer follow ups show promising results to improve patients' quality of life.All 13 studies showed an increase in patient-reported quality of life.Further research may be required to study the financial and resource availability for the utilisation of nurse-led clinics in the future.Impact This study addressed a gap in knowledge of the success and distribution of nurse-led clinics in the field of head and neck cancers.Overall, there is a strong outcome of feasibility and quality patient outcomes for nurse-led clinics.However, there are low sample sizes in the articles found.This may have future impacts on policy and resource funding for further development of nurse-led services; however, further research will be required.
