Abstract:
Qualitative research has not been viewed as a rigorous alternative to established quantitative methods in postgraduate marketing research. However, this paper reports on the Australian development of a successful, structured approach to using the case study methodology in postgraduate research. Its aim is to present and justify guidelines for using the case study research methodology in honours, masters and PhD research theses, and so it should interest candidates and their supervisors. First, appropriate positions on a range of scientific paradigms and core issues of induction and deduction are established. Then implementation of the case study methodology is examined, including the numbers of case studies and of interviews. Unusual but effective uses of theoretical replication to rigorously analyze case study data are illustrated from postgraduate theses. Finally, a framework is provided for constructing a thesis, emphasizing the key methodology chapter. Keywords:

As the importance of marketing to business grows, and as new concepts and applications of marketing emerge and evolve, so too does the need for up-to-date market intelligence. This book recognizes that the contribution which qualitative research can make to market understanding and insight is immense, and that statistical information flows are never enough but need to be compounded by market intelligence gained through qualitative methods.
Qualitative Marketing Research clearly explains the use and importance of qualitative methods, clarifying the theories behind the methodology and providing concrete examples and exercises which illustrate its application to Management Studies and Marketing.
This book is intended for all students of marketing who are required to complete their studies with a dissertation or research project.

Marketing Research an Integrated Approach focuses on the importance of marketing research techniques to solve business problems. Although there are many good books on the market, many focus on the process of Marketing Research, but ignore the importance. This book discusses the marketing research process, from how to collct data to how to analyse it.This book is contemporary in its approach because we take into account the importance of qualitiative and quantitative research methods and practices. This differs to the traditional approach of a quantitative research methods book.Chapter headings: The role of marketing research in solving business problems; The marketing research process; The use and evaluation of secondary data; Qualitative research an overview; Qualitative research a comparison of research methods; Designing questionnaires; Sampling methods; Qualitative research collecting observation data; From fieldwork to analysing quantitative data; Quantitative research analysing quantitative data;Presenting and using the research results.

The aim of the article. The purpose of the article is to generalize classical approaches to the theory of marketing research, systematize the stages of development of scientific thought according to marketing research and the corresponding methodological basis, develop a typology of the goals of marketing research, provide relevant methods of marketing research, and propose a classification of marketing research in the period of the pre-digital economy. The results of the analyses. Methods of marketing research use methods, procedures and operations of theoretical and practical research, empirical research, analysis of the marketing environment of enterprises. Conducting marketing research contributes to reducing the level of information asymmetry. First, due to the enterprise obtaining reliable information about the parameters of the external market environment: the size and structure of current and future market demand, the possible production volumes of competitors, the market situation, trends in the development of the industry and scientific and technical policy in the industry, the political and economic situation, conditions competition. This is due to increasing the effectiveness of communication activities, which is one of the objects of research. Conclusions and perspectives for further research. With scientific thought, a wide range of arguments, definitions and classifications has been developed on issues, methods of conducting and results of marketing research, technology of making marketing decisions; identifying marketing opportunities and solving marketing problems. The results of marketing research are determined by research goals and are formed in a form that depends on the type of research: search, descriptive, experimental, innovative. Marketing research methods have multiple classifications depending on a wide range of features. The paper systematizes the stages of the development of scientific thought regarding marketing research and the corresponding methodological basis, the goals of marketing research and the methods of marketing research corresponding to them, a classification of marketing research is proposed based on the generalization of existing approaches. In further developments in this direction, it is planned to modernize the theoretical foundation of marketing research in the conditions of the digital economy.

Purpose This paper aims at interpreting the epistemology of marketing. The paper investigates several research questions, proposing some initial reflections concerning their impact on marketing. Design/methodology/approach The paper addresses the research questions by conducting an analysis of the marketing literature. An analysis of philosophical postmodern literature is also carried out. The paper's attempt constantly to create links between the level of philosophical elaboration and that of marketing research leads to a proposal of new approach to marketing research: experiential research. Findings In the paper's review of the marketing literature the traditional pragmatic approach of marketing as a discipline is highlighted. Its strong managerial perspective has partly diverted researchers’ attention from the theory, and focused it mainly on the method. This has created an increasingly marked distinction between the marketing literature aimed at management, and that aimed at the academic community. The postmodern perspective on marketing calls for a rethinking of the “scientific nature” of marketing as an investigative field. Research limitations/implications The main point is that marketing cannot be a scientific discipline only by adopting a scientific method. Marketing research is by definition different in nature: it cannot generate better but only different knowledge. This perspective shift has an impact on all research components. First, the field of research widens enormously, because researchers can deal with everything arousing their interest and to which their accumulated knowledge can be applied. Since the discipline does not become scientific, the researcher can use any method. All methods can originate scientific theories, and therefore incremental knowledge. Hence science is neither objective nor absolute. Originality/value This paper analyses the philosophical roots of postmodernism, in order to understand its impact on postmodern marketing better. It also focuses on the impact of postmodernism on marketing research, and proposes a new approach. This paper then explores the features of the experiential research in marketing, and its effect on the processes of generating knowledge.

Abstract This chapter examines marketing research, one of the most engaging parts of marketing, as it is the opportunity for organizations to evaluate marketing performance, uncover customer behaviours, and explore their preferences. Marketing research covers a range of activities which may be positioned as either problem-identification research or problem-solving research. Sources of data and information for marketing research include secondary or desk research; primary or field data; quantitative data; and qualitative data. Meanwhile, marketing research methods are reviewed including surveys and questionnaires; focus groups and interviews; experiments and observations; and neuromarketing. The chapter then considers how sampling is widely used in primary research. It also looks at customer insights and big data.

Abstract Subject and purpose of work: The article is devoted to historical marketing research. Its purpose is to identify barriers to conducting historical marketing research and to characterize the significance of this type of research. Materials and methods: The observations contained in the article were formulated on the basis of a review, analysis, synthesis and critical evaluation of the literature in the field of marketing. Results: The article highlights the ahistorical attitude of marketing discipline also with reference to research in the area of marketing. Barriers to conducting this type of research were discussed and the significance of historical research was pointed out.. The barriers were characterized based on the properties of historical research as well as the features of practice and marketing theory. The problem is discussed from the point of view of marketing practice, marketing theory, the status of marketing as a science, the role of historical research as a critical approach in the science of marketing, and historical analysis of phenomena as a social perspective. The significance of historical marketing research for teaching marketing issues is underlined. Conclusions: The main conclusion of the analysis is that historical research on marketing plays a particularly significant role, despite the fact that it is found on the margins of currently undertaken issues and does not belong to the mainstream marketing. As a result, it is rarely discussed in marketing textbooks.
