    Abstract:
    Abstract From the leaves of Globularia alypum , three new phenylethyl glycosides, namely galypumosides A (=2‐(3,4‐dihydroxyphenyl)ethyl O ‐ α ‐rhamnopyranosyl‐(1→3)‐4‐ O ‐[( E )‐caffeoyl]‐6‐ O ‐[( E )‐ p ‐coumaroyl]‐ β ‐glucopyranoside; 1 ), B (=2‐(3,4‐dihydroxyphenyl)ethyl O ‐ α ‐rhamnopyranosyl‐(1→3)‐4‐ O ‐[( E )‐caffeoyl]‐6‐ O ‐[( E )‐feruloyl]‐ β ‐glucopyranoside; 2 ), and C (=2‐(3,4‐dihydroxyphenyl)ethyl O ‐ α ‐rhamnopyranosyl‐(1→3)‐4‐ O ‐[( E )‐caffeoyl]‐6‐ O ‐menthiafoloyl‐ β ‐glucopyranoside; 3 ), were isolated, together with two known phenylethyl glycosides, calceolarioside A and verbascoside. Eight iridoid glucosides, catalpol, globularicisin, globularin, globularidin, globularinin, globularimin, lytanthosalin, and alpinoside, a flavon glycoside, 6‐hydroxyluteolin 7‐ O ‐sophoroside, a lignan glycoside, syringaresinol 4′‐ O ‐ β ‐glucopyranoside, and a phenylpropanoid glycoside, syringin, were also obtained and characterized. The structures of the isolates were elucidated on the basis of 1D‐ and 2D‐NMR experiments as well as HR‐MALDI‐MS.

Five phenolic glycosides, clerodenoside A (1), seguinoside K (2), cistanoside D (3), verbascoside (4), and isoverbacoside (5) were isolated from the ethyl acetate soluble fraction of methanolic extract of the Clerodendrum inerme stems. Their structures were determined by spectroscopic analysis and comparison of spectral data with those reported in the literature. Compound 3 was isolated from this plant for the first time.

Objective: To establish a method for simultaneously quantification of the catalpol and verbascoside in Qihuang Shutang capsule and to provide the reference for other content determination of containing rehmannia prepation. Methods: RP- HPLC was performed on Agilent HC- C18column( 250 mm × 4. 6 mm,5 μm) with acetonitrile- 0. 1% phosphoric acid aqueous solution as mobile phase, gradient elution, detection wavelength was switched at 210 nm and 334 nm,flow rate was 1. 0 mL / min, column temperature was 28 ℃. Results: A good linear relationship was obtained from 0. 385- 11. 55 μg and 0. 115- 3. 45 μg for catalpol and verbascoside, respectively. Conclusion: The results show that this method is accurate and reproducible for content determination of rehmanniae in Qihuang Shutang capsule.

Objective: To compare the content of catalpol and verbascoside of different cultivars rehmannia glutinosa libosch by high performance liquid chromatography( HPLC) and optimize the extraction process. Methods: Catalpol and acteoside were reflux extraction with methanol and determined by HPLC. The chromatographic column was Agilent ZORBAX SB- Aq( 4. 6mm ×250mm,5μm); the flow rate was 1. 0ml / min; the column temperature was kept at 30℃; the mobile phase was consisted ofacetonitrile- 0. 1% phosphoric acid( 1: 99) and the detection wavelength was 210 nm,which was used for catalpol; the mobile phase was consisted of acetonitrile- 0. 1% acetic acid( 16: 84) and the detection wavelength was 334 nm,which was used for verbascoside. Results: The content of catalpol and verbascoside in varieties of rehmannia glutinosa libosch had significant difference. The content of catalpol in 85- 5 was the highest, reaching 6. 58%. The contents of verbascoside in 9302 were the highest, reaching 0. 2479%. Conclusion: The content of catalpol and verbascoside is different in varieties of rehmannia glutinosa libosch. The optimized extraction condition can be obtained by response surface methodology using central composite design.

Four new lignan glycosides (1-4), named procumbenosides I, K, L, and M, together with cleistanthin B (5) reported for the first time in the genus Justicia, and 5 other known arylnaphthalene lignan glycosides (6-10) were isolated from the whole plant of Justicia procumbens. The structures of the new compounds were elucidated by extensive one-dimensional (1D) and two-dimensional (2D) NMR experiments and mass spectrometry. Procumbenoside M (4) was a rare sesquilignan glycoside never previously reported in the species of Justicia. The paper also provided insight into the conformational equilibria existing in the lignan glycosides of the plant.
Plantain (Plantago lanceolata) is known to contain bioactive compounds including verbascoside (acteoside), aucubin and catalpol. Limited New Zealand data are available to quantify the concentrations of secondary plant compounds in cultivars of plantain. This experiment compared secondary plant compound concentrations for five cultivars or breeding lines of plantain and the botanical distribution of these compounds over a year. For all cultivars verbascoside concentration was greatest, aucubin intermediate and catalpol lowest. The concentration of catalpol and verbascoside in leaf tended to be greater for the cultivars ‘Hercules’ and ‘Endurance’ compared with ‘Elite 2’, ‘PG742’ and ‘Tonic’. However, ‘Hercules’ and ‘Endurance’ tended to have lower concentrations of catalpol and verbascoside in scape (reproductive material from base to seedhead). The difference among cultivars in aucubin concentration was small. This experiment suggests that leaf concentration of catalpol and verbascoside is genotype specific.

Three new tetrahydrofuranoid-lignan glycosides, tanegosides A, B and C, were isolated from Trachelospermum liukiuense HATSUSIMA, along with 8 lignan glycosides already known in T. asiaticum, and the structures were elucidated by spectral and chemical methods.

A new lignan glycoside [glehlinoside G (1)] and three new neolignan glycosides [glehlinosides H (2), I (3) and J (4)] were isolated from the roots of Glehnia littoralis. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic data. The above glehlinosides (1–4), together with the other lignan and neolignan glycosides (5–12) from this plant, were evaluated for their prolyl oligopeptidase inhibitory activities, and a caffeoyled lignan glycoside (glehlinoside F, 8) exhibited a noticeable activity (IC50 = 14.5 µM).
