Abstract:
As trade competition is getting fiercer, innovation in all areas of product realization is becoming more of a need than a want. In this paper, the authors present an innovative idea for an actual implementation of reconfigurable manufacturing, where a FlexDie is designed to manufacture sheet metal parts. The idea is to mimic the representation of graphics and text on a screen using pixels. The developed FlexDie in this paper consists of the two halves that are similar in design. It comprises pixel like pins assembled next to each other in the XY plane. The pinsâ heights in the Z-direction are designed to be adjustable to yield a desired topology. Each pixel can be altered and locked at a certain Z- coordinate. A prototype is developed to test the concept and produce preliminary results. The developed prototype consists of two-half dies, each having 8x8 square pixels, each of about 10x10 square mm. In the implemented design the Z-coordinates of the pixels are controlled and locked at desired heights via an array of screws. Sample parts consisting of three-dimensional metal sheets were manufactured using the developed FlexDie. This implementation opens the door for a new way of reconfigurable manufacturing, where the hardware is designed to be programmable. Keywords:

In the literature, three different types of nonnegative realization problem have been addressed: the nonnegative realization problem for strictly proper rational functions [L. Benvenuti and L. Farina, 2004], the nonnegative realization problem for autonomous behaviors [J.W. Nieuwenhuis, 1998], [M.E. Valcher, 2001] and the K-realization problem [H. Maeda and S. Kodama, 1981]. In this paper these problems are compared and mutually related, and some results obtained within the behavioral setting are applied to the solution of the nonnegative realization problem for rational functions.

A constructive procedure is proposed for three-dimensional (3D) single-input single-output (SISO) state-space realization. The new realization procedure exposes the structural properties of 3D Roesser model and provides important insights for multidimensional (nD) realization problem. It is computationally more efficient and lead to a possibly lower order realization than the existing algorithms. An illustrative example is presented to show the effectiveness of the proposed procedure.

The ξ-field realization, which is a new type of nonlinear realization proposed in a previous paper, is extended to the most general form. It is shown that the BRS transformation in the gauge theory can be understood as a special example of the ξ-field realization. A nonlinear realization used in the chiral dynamics can also be regarded as an example of the ξ-field realization.

The technique of realization of process of updating of the basic means of the enterprise is offered. The technique includes realization of eleven stages which realization allows to choose a way of updating and to establish term of updating of means of work. The maintenance and features of realization of each of eleven stages of a technique of realization ofpro-cess of updating of the basic means of the enterprise is considered.

The Dyson realization of the quantum group SU(1,1)q is constructed and the transformation matrix, which turns the Dyson realization into the Holstein–Primakoff realization, is given. The coherent state for the Dyson realization is discussed and is found to be the q-deformed Weyl–Heisenberg coherent state.

In this paper we obtained for the Higgs algebra three kinds of single-mode realizations such as the unitary Holstein-Primakoff-like realization, the non-unitary Dyson-like realization and the unitary realization based upon Villain-like realization. The corresponding similarity transformations between the Holstein-Primakoff-like realizations and the Dyson-like realizations are revealed.
