    Abstract:
This document mainly describes the control equipment of microwave anechoic chamber RCS measurement system, which can be expanded into a generic and automatic multi-channel control system. The conventional control equipment is mainly operating in manual mode with computer control feature as secondary. Such feature causes the problems of difficult operation, complicated structure and no software portability. This generic control system is designed with DAM-E3000 series of module which is an interface module from generic sensor to computer, uses remote Ethernet connection solution, supports TCP/IP and UDP protocols, and can realize remote I/O control. This generic control system has the automatic control feature through network by using this mentioned module. In addition, the hardware structure design is simplified, and the software portability and expandability are enhanced, so that the codes programming difficulty is lowered. Therefore the system can conform to more industrial I/O signal protocols and can be used widely in various industrial environments.

The Photon Factory control system was originally developed more than 20 years ago and has been upgraded several times. As a part of the straight‐sections upgrade, which started in March, 2005, we renewed the control system incorporating modern technologies in both low‐level and high‐level control layers. In the low‐level layer, a PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) is now intensively used for title safety control system, for RF klystron control boards and for the vacuum control system. In the middle‐level and high‐level layers, the EPICS (Experimental Physics and Industrial Control System) software toolkit was adopted. We also replaced VME‐board computers with HP‐RT operating system by Linux‐based computers, which are now used as input/output controllers (IOCs) for the EPICS. The new system has been running without any serious problems since its commissioning in September, 2005.

In this paper we present a distributed relational data base management system on microcomputer network titled C-POREL. The design and implementation ideas of this system are based on the pioneer distributed data base management systems such as SDD-1, SIRIUSDELTA, ADA-DDM, R~* and especially POREL. The primary goal of C-POREL is practicability, with emphasis as well on the advancement, adaptability and limited portability. The microcomputers MC68000 connected by local network ETHERNET are selected to setup CPOREL. C-POREL is now implemented in the Institute of Mathematics, Academia Sinica, the Department of Computer Science, Shanghai University of Science and Technology and the Department of Computer Science, Normal University of East China.

A supervisory control system is used to improve the performance of a conventional industrial plant electrical distribution system. The control system consists of several programmable controllers located throughout a large industrial plant and intercommunicating over leased dedicated telephone lines. Described are the plant power system, supervisory control system functions, programmable controllers' communications scheme, and control programs.

Since the very beginning, approach to control system design is being changed and improved. As the technology advances, demands on such a system become tougher, making the system's capabilities even higher. As a consequence, some international standards have been developed, covering programming languages, design approaches, naming conventions etc. This paper presents the main characteristics of modern industrial control systems. It focuses on programmable logic controllers (PLC) and Supervisory, Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems, as a foundation of an industrial control system. The existing system controlling the tobacco stem processing line in Tobacco factory Sarajevo will be analyzed and some failures and unused potential recognized. The paper gives ideas/suggestions about how to improve this or a similar control system.

The industrial control systems have entered to the era of networked control. The research and development of networked industrial control systems become an important trend in the fields of manufacture control, process control, measurement and control. The main aspects of the design and implementation for the networked industrial control systems are systematically described,inclu- ding the architecture of the systems, time delay, clock synchronization, control algorithm and node sensor/controller.Some research problems of networked industrial control systems are also pointed out.

EPICS (experimental physics and industrial control system), a distributed control system, is introduced in the paper. The structure and components of EPICS are described in detail. The upgrade of HLS (Hefei synchrotron light source) control system, which is a part of the NSRL phase II project, is also described. The control system is developed under EPICS and mainly based on PC hardware.
