Abstract A set of Co x Pt 100− x nanoparticles (NPs) was synthesized by the sol–gel method. The structure and magnetic properties of the produced samples were investigated by x-ray diffraction (XRD), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), selected area electron diffraction (SAED) and a vibrating sample magnetometer. When the Co content ranged from 25 to 75 at%, the results of XRD, HRTEM and SAED revealed the formation of L1 2 CoPt 3 , L1 0 CoPt and face-centred cubic Co 3 Pt NPs. Magnetic measurements indicated that CoPt 3 and Co 3 Pt had soft magnetic properties. When the Co composition was 50 at%, the sample coercivity reached a giant value of ∼470 kA m −1 .

The purpose of this study is to identify the crystal structure of metastable phase in Ag added Al-Mg-Si alloy to compare the formation of β’-phases in Al-Mg-Si alloys without Ag, using images of high resolution transmission electron microscope (HRTEM), selected area electron diffraction (SAED) patterns and an energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). The result of SAED patterns and HRTEM images have been simulated and compared with images then SAED patterns obtained from actual precipitates. SAED patterns and HRTEM images obtained from metastable phase in the Ag added Al-Mg-Si alloy showed similar to those of β’-phase in Al-Mg-Si alloy without Ag and the lattice spacings changed because of the effect of Ag.

Novel nanoplate-composed flowerlike Ag micro-nano structures were fabricated by a simple aqueous solution route.The products were characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD),scanning electronic microscopy(SEM),transmission electron microscopy(TEM),high resolution transmission electron microscopy(HRTEM),and selected area electrical diffraction(SAED).The effect of pH on the morphology of the products was investigated and the mechanisms of the formation of the flowerlike Ag micro-nano structures were discussed preliminarily.The products were composed of a great deal of interlaced nanoplates,experiments indicated that these micro-nano structures have very strong SERS activity as SERS substrates.

Under a non-space confinement condition,GaN nanowires with diameters of about 10-50nm were synthesized on LaAlO 3 substrates by using a simple gas reaction method.The structural properties of GaN nanowries were characterized by means of X-ray powder diffraction(XRD),field-emitting scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM),high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM)and selected area electron diffraction (SAED).SEM images showed that the straight nanowires with smooth surface were obtained.XRD,SAED and HRTEM indicated that the nanowires were wurtzite GaN crystals.
