Abstract:
Abstract Communicating with value-by-area cartograms is at best a difficult task. However, the mapmaker can render a cartogram more meaningful in communication by retaining the basic shapes of the statistical units. This idea was examined and several tests were administered to subjects to gain information about points along state shapes that are used as cues in map reading. It was determined that map readers mentally generalize geographic shapes into ones that are similar to the over-all shape quality of the originals. In cartogram construction, the mapmaker should provide at least those points along state outlines that are proven to be the cues for shape identification. Anything less will detract from its ability to communicate effectively and, in fact, if this is the case alternate mapping methods should be employed. Keywords:

Assistive Robots have an inherent need of adapting to the user they are assisting. This is crucial for the correct development of the task, user safety, and comfort. However, adaptation can be performed in several manners. We believe user preferences are key to this adaptation. In this article, we evaluate the use of preferences for Physically Assistive Robotics tasks in a Human-Robot Interaction user evaluation. Three assistive tasks have been implemented consisting of assisted feeding, shoe-fitting, and jacket dressing, where the robot performs each task in a different manner based on user preferences. We assess the ability of the users to determine which execution of the task used their chosen preferences (if any). The obtained results show that most of the users were able to successfully guess the cases where their preferences were used even when they had not seen the task before. We also observe that their satisfaction with the task increases when the chosen preferences are employed. Finally, we also analyze the user’s opinions regarding assistive tasks and preferences, showing promising expectations as to the benefits of adapting the robot behavior to the user through preferences.

Modernism and Close Reading, a book of collected essays edited by David James, provides a much-needed reassessment of close reading’s history and a projection for its potential future. While close reading has suffered many attacks in the recent reading method debates, the first part of this book shows that close reading had a more complex history than is often portrayed, including multiple manifestations and possible points of origin. The second part of the book then looks at how close reading can be rethought to remain productive in literary studies today.

The bad object of this essay is reading. It assembles fragments of an abandoned project that would have posed the delirious thesis of universal reading disorder. There are four fragments, which analyze scenes of the other reading from Augustine, Rousseau, Flaubert, and Blanchot. They argue against at least two fundamental assumptions in the reading sciences: that anyone ever knows how to read and that the other’s reading can be seen other than in fiction.

Reading in the digital world has both similarities and differences from reading on paper. Books as tangible objects elicit powerful responses linked to the pleasures felt in reading them. Although our eyes scan differently when reading online, reading e-versions of books initially seems similar to reading on paper. However digital books have some significantly different aspects that will be especially powerful in academic work.

Reading books and reading on line differ in their reading carriers. The two types of carriers depend upon each other and are interchangeable. To get the whole nation to read,it is necessary to have the reading of books and the reading on line complemented to make them develop into two important systems of modern time reading.

Reading clubs are networks made up of book lovers who read the same book at the same time and then share their ideas and feelings inspired by that reading. This short paper discusses the benefits of reading clubs and reading workshops.

I situate the controversial critical strategies of distant reading and surface reading in the reception history of Gertrude Stein, an author whose work was frequently declared “unreadable.” I argue that an early twentieth-century history of compromised forms of reading, including women’s reading and information work, subtends both the technology with which distant reading may be carried out and the ways in which an author’s work comes to be understood as a corpus in the first place.

Nowadays, undergraduates spend less time doing some reading, only reads some easy materials, seldom works hard at reading, reads without any aims or objectives and sometimes reads without any system;therefore, the author propounds that we should cultivate undergraduates' reading spirit, viz, reading needs persistence and perseverance, reading needs active thinking and reading needs a kind of spirit of pleasure thought very toil. Therefore, the construction of reading system is supposed to center round basic readings, professional readings, selective reading and horizontal reading. In short, helping undergraduates to read in a healthy while effective way is the problem needed to be solved.
