    catena-Poly[[[bis[diaqua(4,4'-bipyridine)cadmium(II)]-bis[mu-(N"-carboxymethyldiethylenetriamine-N,N,N',N"-tetraacetato)cadmium(II)]]-mu-4,4'-bipyridine] tetradecahydrate], [Cd(4)(C(14)H(19)N(3)O(10))(2)(C(10)H(8)N(2))(3)(H(2)O)(4)].14H(2)O or [Cd(4)(HDTPA)(2)(BPY)(3)(H(2)O)(4)].14H(2)O, where BPY is 4,4'-bipyridine and HDTPA(4-) is N"-carboxymethyldiethylenetriamine-N,N,N',N"-tetraacetate, consists of a one-dimensional coordination polymer formed from a secondary building unit which comprises four Cd centres. The chain structure of the title compound was obtained by the use of a multidentate organic ligand, N,N,N',N",N"-diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid (H(5)DTPA), which forms multiple chelate rings with the Cd metal centres. An extended network is formed via hydrogen bonds.

    Abstract Modification of the multistep synthesis of the previously described bis[5‐(diphenylphosphanyl)pyrazol‐1‐yl)]methane (bppzm, 1 ) produces the novel diphosphane (diphenylphosphanyl)‐[5‐(diphenylphosphanyl)pyrazol‐1‐yl](pyrazol‐1‐yl)methane (p4m, 2 ). Treatment of this ligand with [MCl 2 (PhCN) 2 ] (M = Pd, Pt) or [M(COD)(THF) 2 ]BF 4 (M = Rh, Ir) produces [MCl 2 (p4m)] (M = Pd 3 , Pt 4 ) or [M(COD)(p4m)]BF 4 (M = Rh 5 , Ir 6 ) complexes, which chelate in a P , P ‐bidentate fashion. Sulfidation of bppzm and p4m produces the disulfidophosphanes bppzmS 2 ( 7 ) and p4mS 2 ( 8 ). Treatment of 7 and 8 with [PdCl 2 (PhCN) 2 ] produces [PdCl 2 (bppzmS 2 )] ( 9 ) and [PdCl 2 (pmS 2 )] ( 10 ), respectively, in which ligands 7 and 8 act in an N , N ‐bidentate chelate fashion. In contrast, ligand 8 reacts with [Rh(COD)(THF) 2 ]BF 4 to produce [Rh(COD)(p4mS 2 )]BF 4 , where ligand 7 acts in a dynamic S , S ‐chelate fashion. The activity of some of these complexes in the catalytic hydrogenation of olefins is reported and the single‐crystal X‐ray structures of 4 , 8 , and 9 have been obtained.     Studies of the interaction between 1:1 Th(IV)-DTPA chelate (where DTPA = diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid) with certain bidentate ligands, such as salicylic acid (SA), 5-sulphosalicylic acid (SSA) and 8-hydroxy quinoline-5-sulphonic acid (HQSA) have been carried out potentiometrically. The nature of the titration curves indicates that the bidentate ligand is added stepwise to the initially formed metal diethylenetriaminepentaacetate. The formation constants (log K MAB ) of the resulting 1:1:1 mixed ligand derivatives have been determined at 30 ± 1 °C and μ = 0.1 (KNO 3 ). The order of stability in terms of the secondary ligand has been found to be SA > SSA > HQSA.

    Diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid (DTPA) dianhydride was treated with five alcohols (C8C16) to give new five chelating agents, DTPA-dialkyl esters.The equivalent reaction between the chelating agents and several metal ions, gave the corresponding 1 : 1 metal.chelates in good yields.These metal chelates and sodium salts of the chelating agents were found to be more soluble in organic solvents than those of DTPA-monoalkyl esters which have been reported in previous paper, and to have good surface-active properties, especially dispersing power.
