A study of the enhancement effect on the fluorescence intensity of terbium acetylsalicylic acid(ASA) system by lutetium, gadolinium or yttrium was carried out.In the presence of these elements the fluorescence of the Tb ASA system was enhanced by factors of 108,58 and 73. The standard addition method was used for the determinations of terbium in synthetic sample and standard sample and the results were satisfactory. The recovery of terbium was in the range 90.5~105.6%.The fluorescence enhancement mechanism and the effect of surfactant were discussed.

Series of lutetium doped yttrium iron garnet films is studied by means of 57 Fe nuclear magnetic resonance.Satellite spectral lines are resolved and identified in the spectra and concentrations of lutetium in dodecahedral sites as well as yttrium/lutetium antisite defects in octahedral sites are estimated.Compared to yttrium, lutetium cations are found to have stronger disposition towards creating the antisite defects.

Abstract ESR of Mo 3+ ions and NMR of 27 Al nuclei is investigated in mixed single crystals of yttrium‐lutetium‐aluminum garnets (Y 1 − x Lu x ) 3 Al 5 O 12 , where O ≦ x ≦ 1. Several new centres of Mo 3+ and 27 Al compared with Y 3 Al 5 O 12 and Lu 3 Al 5 O 12 single crystals are revealed associated with symmetry and crystalline field parameter changes at isomorphous substitution of Y 3+ ions in the rare‐earth sublattice of the garnet by those of Lu 3+ . Symmetry, nearest coordination, and parameters of spin‐Hamiltonians are estimated concerning all of Mo 3+ and 27 Al centres in (Y 1 − x Lu x ) 3 Al 5 O 12 , at x < 0.15.
